Just as jet fuel gets into your blood, as always avid explorers, flight attendants also love to eat. Give them any destination and they'll probably be able to name a restaurant of choice. We also know where other airline crew hang out. Sampling the local food is something crew look forward to, once down-route. They know the layover is often short, so if they know somewhere good to eat, they often stick with it. So where are their favorite cities to eat? Let's take a look.

1 Singapore

Singapore has to be the top spot - who doesn't love a layover there (jet lag aside)? The shopping is great and the food top-notch. Chijmes is very popular for international crew members as it houses many restaurants, cafés and bars as well as entertainment options. However, you can't go wrong during the day, eating at a hawker center. You can pick from any of the stands and try many different dishes - some are even Michelin-starred, and all are very reasonably priced.

If you have the budget, a Singapore Sling at the Long Bar at Raffles Hotel, is worth the experience. Wing Seong Fatty's restaurant or just 'Fatty's' as it's known is extremely popular for its spring rolls, claypot chicken and a Tsingtao beer. It's been a favorite with crew from all over the world for many years.

2 Tokyo (Narita)

Another huge favorite foodie destination. Firstly, along the main street, going towards the temple, there are lots of ramen and sushi restaurants to choose from. They are easily spotted by the plastic meal replicas they have in the window. There are also vendors selling roasted hot chestnuts on the street. It's hard to eat bad food in Japan.

The Barge Inn is popular with some crew (apparently named after the owner misheard the crew visiting from 'Virgin' Atlantic.) The Jet Lag Club, a bar run by ex-cabin crew is popular for after-dinner drinks and snacks. There's even free popcorn. The notorious club The Truck has long since closed down, but was very popular with flight attendants from all over the world. Instead, they go to The Cage, a karaoke bar, for entertainment or when they just can't sleep.

3 Vienna

Not an obvious choice, but it's great for foodies. By day, it's great to stop by any bakery and have a coffee and a slice of Sacher-Torte or treat yourself to the real thing at Cafe Sacher Wien. By night, crew head for one of the 'student bars' where you can eat classic Weiner Schnitzel and have a beer or some local Gruner Veltliner wine. These are the best for crew on a budget.

The Christmas markets are worth a visit in December to sample some hot mulled wine and winter snacks. The Naschmarkt is a great place to explore local and foreign foods and visit the many market stands - it is a delight for anyone who loves food.

4 Sydney

Many crew head towards the Establishment Bar for a few drinks, once the jet lag subsides. It's a fun bar, not so expensive but completely packed out at weekends. For most flight attendants, it's a once-in-a-lifetime experience to see the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House, so we tend to eat at one of the many seafront restaurants there, that overlook it. Of course, how could you miss a sunset there?

5 Capetown

With such great and food and wine around, it's rude not to go and eat around Capetown. Most crew stay outside the city, in areas like Somerset West, so it's the perfect opportunity to visit a winery in Stellenbosch for dinner. It's an amazing opportunity to sample local wines, enjoy great local produce and finish off with a Dom Pedro. If you are feeling brave or just curious, you can try crocodile, springbok or ostrich. The views from the wineries are pretty stunning too.

6 Bangkok

The final mention has to go to Bangkok - some crew love it, some hate it, but you'll never forget it. The restaurant 'Once upon a time' used to be a popular spot for crew, as the food was good, the price ok and the decor and gardens were beautiful. It has now since closed as has Bed Supperclub which was also popular. Trying the street food in the markets is a must as a visit to Patpong, to see some nighttime entertainment.
