Iberia has announced a promotion where you will receive a minimum of 9,000 bonus Avios for car rentals with Avis. The promotion is valid for rentals through December 15, 2018. To be eligible for the bonus the rental period must be a minimum of 3 days and should be over a weekend, including a Saturday night.

 

The Deal

  • Rentals must include the Iberia Plus membership number of the first named driver
  • Promotion valid in the following countries: Spain mainland, Balearics and Canaries, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, France, Italy, Portugal, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom
  • Promotion is not valid on Corporate AWD rentals, Prestige rentals, Chauffeur Drive or Van rentals worldwide
  • Allow up to 8 weeks for the bonus Avios to post to your account

Is It Worth It?

Taking advantage of the promotion can be relatively lucrative, although this will depend on the location and time of your rental. Booking a group C car, 3-day rental at Manchester airport in November will set you back €72.78. With a minimum of 9,000 Avios bonus; this works out at 0.8 Euro cent per Avios, which is pretty good value.

 

How the promotion works out for you will greatly depend on the destination of your rental, renting a car at a popular tourist destination, like Malaga, Spain will set you back €107,98 for a 3-day rental of a group C car.

 

Taking a minimum of 9,000 Avios into account, the rental would work out at ~1.2-euro cents apiece. While this is not a great return, if you are planning on renting a car anyway and the rental price is competitive it could be worthwhile.

If you are planning on booking a car during the promotion period at a participating destination, then this promotion came along just at the right time. Remember you can also transfer Avios from Iberia to BA and vice versa, so If you are a few thousand Avios short of a redemption, you may want to consider taking up the promotion. Although if you do so book well in advance to get the cheapest deal possible and reduce the cost of your rental.
