Tickets for the route are already on sale on Aeroitalia's website, with prices starting at €39.99 ($42.94). The airline's CEO, Francesco Gaetano Intrieri, celebrated the route launch, saying,

"Aeroitalia continues to implement its network with the aim of strengthening its presence in Sicily and offering more and more possibilities for connections with new destinations. We are proud to continue to offer a significant contribution to the growth of air transport in the Sicilian Region. We are making every effort to offer more and more alternative travel options with the best quality-price ratio, and with an onboard service that differentiates us in terms of style and customer service."

Sicily's increased connectivity

The President of the Sicilian Region, Renato Schifani, praised Aeroitalia for strengthening the air connections between Sicily and mainland Europe. From Comiso, Aeroitalia also flies to Bergamo (BGY), Bologna (BLQ), and Rome (FCO).

Aeroitalia also operates services from Sicily's two largest airports - Catania (CTA) and Palermo (PMO). The airline's new route to Bucharest is expected to prove popular with the sizeable Romanian population living and working on the island. Beginning on June 2nd, Aeroitalia will soon connect the Romanian capital with Rome (FCO) too.

Aeroitalia - a newcomer to the Italian aviation market

Aeroitalia commenced operations in July 2022 and operates flights to a series of Italian and European destinations, primarily from its two main bases at Milan Bergamo (BGY) and Forlì (FRL). The airline will see significant expansion this summer, as it launches flights to summer holiday destinations throughout Croatia and Greece.

Aerolitalia will use its sole Boeing 737-700 on the new Comiso to Bucharest route, which has a capacity of up to 143 passengers in an all-economy configuration. According to data from ch-aviation.com, the rest of Aeroitalia's fleet is made up of four Boeing 737-800s and one ATR 72-600. The airline also has a further two 737-800s and three 737 MAX 8s on order.
