For the first time since the pandemic began, Aerolíneas Argentinas received a new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, the company announced on Monday. The new jetliner, registration LV-KEJ, is the sixth of the model to join the fleet, and it is currently undergoing painting. Let’s investigate further.

The newest MAX

Aerolíneas Argentinas received a new Boeing 737 MAX 8 on Monday, resuming the deliveries of the aircraft model after four years. The last MAX jetliner Aerolíneas Argentinas had received from Boeing arrived on June 8, 2018 (registration LV-HKW).

Pablo Ceriani, Aerolíneas Argentinas CEO, said,

“It is a great joy to receive another zero kilometer aircraft that will serve to further enhance the domestic and regional network with better performance, autonomy, and considerable savings in aeronautical fuel consumption.”

Currently, Aerolíneas Argentinas has a fleet composed of 78 aircraft, including nine Airbus A330-200s, eight Boeing 737-700s, 29 Boeing 737-800s, five MAX 8s and 26 Embraer E190s inherited from the Austral merger in 2020.

The newest aircraft of Argentina’s state carrier arrived on Saturday, June 25. The jetliner, registration LV-KEJ, left Boeing’s facilities in Seattle on Friday and flew to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, where it stayed the night. Then, on Saturday, the crew departed for Buenos Aires in a non-stop seven-hour flight before landing at Ezeiza International Airport (EZE).

In the coming months, a new Boeing 737 MAX and an Airbus 330 are scheduled to arrive, bringing the company's total to 80 aircraft, following the scheduled departures of two Airbus 330s and two Boeing 737s with several years of service with the airline.

Configuration and benefits

Aerolíneas Argentinas' new plane will shortly be moved to the Fabrica Argentina de Aviones (FADEA), where it will be painted with the carrier’s livery.

This jetliner has a two-class configuration and can carry up to 170 passengers (162 in economy and eight in business). It has CFM International engines, winglets, and the Boeing Sky interior.

The Boeing Sky interior was launched in late 2010, inspired by the 787 Dreamliner’s interior, and has become a favorite among travelers, according to Aerolíneas Argentinas.

Where can you see Aerolíneas Argentinas Boeing 737 MAXs?

Aerolíneas Argentinas is one of the four Latin American airlines currently flying the MAX. It also has the fewest number of MAX aircraft among the four. The others are Aeromexico, Copa Airlines, and GOL.

The Argentine carrier expects to receive eight additional MAX units, bringing the total to 14.

Aerolíneas has five active MAX aircraft (all received between November 2017 and June 2018). According to data by FlightRadar24.com, Aerolíneas deploys its MAX fleet mostly on domestic and some interregional routes.

For instance, LV-HKV (delivered in February 2018) recently flew to Asunción (Paraguay), Salvador (Brazil), and the Argentinian cities of Resistencia, Puerto Madryn, Salta, and Río Gallegos.

Similarly, the remaining MAX jetliners have been operating recent flights to destinations such as San Carlos de Bariloche, Rosario, Ushuaia, and El Calafate in Argentina, as well as Santiago (Chile), Rio de Janeiro, and São Paulo (Brazil).
