Aerolíneas Argentinas will launch a new route between Argentina and Brazil, reopen three routes currently closed due to the COVID-19 crisis, and increase the overall number of frequencies between both countries as it scales up its international capacity. Where will it fly? Let’s investigate further.

Aerolíneas’ plans

Aerolíneas Argentinas will have up to 63 weekly flights between Brazil and Argentina by July, according to the carrier. The State operator will reopen three routes between April and July and launch a new route.

Starting in July, Aerolíneas Argentinas will launch the route between Salta (SLA) and São Paulo (GRU). The airline will operate three weekly flights allowing increased connectivity for the Argentinian provinces of Salta and Tucumán, in the northwest of the country.

Prior to opening that route, Aerolíneas Argentinas expects to relaunch three services it had closed due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in South America. The carrier will resume its flights from Buenos Aires (Ezeiza International Airport, EZE and Aeroparque Jorge Newbery, AEP) to Brasília (BSB), Curitiba (CWB), and Porto Alegre (POA).

Daniel Scioli, Argentina’s ambassador in Brazil, commented on the flights,

"Direct air connectivity with Brasília will boost regional tourism, commercial exchange, and reciprocal institutional presence between both countries. These flights symbolize our idea of building bridges, in this case by air, uniting, generating links, and deepening the relationship with Brazil."

Resuming connectivity

Argentina will resume its flights between Buenos Aires and three Brazilian cities (Brasília, Curitiba, and Porto Alegre).

The flights to Brazil’s capital will resume on April 5 from Aeroparque, and Aerolíneas Argentinas will operate four weekly flights on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. It will be the first time in the last six years that Aerolíneas flies to Brasília.

Meanwhile, the flights to Curitiba and Porto Alegre will be reopened on April 4, also with four flights per week each of the routes.

Fabián Lombardo, Commercial Director of Aerolíneas Argentinas added,

"The Brazilian market is the most important market for Aerolíneas Argentinas. This flight offer is aimed at recovering traffic in both the corporate and tourist segments. We are convinced that we are offering a varied and attractive product that meets the demand.”

Once all the flights are restored, Aerolíneas Argentinas will have up to 63 weekly flights between Argentina and Brazil.

Currently, the Argentinian flag carrier operates 18 weekly flights to São Paulo, 14 to Rio de Janeiro, seven to Florianópolis, three to Salvador de Bahía from Buenos Aires. It also has three weekly flights from Córdoba to Rio de Janeiro and Florianópolis, each.

GOL also increases its connectivity

Aerolíneas Argentinas is not the only airline to increase the connectivity between Brazil and Argentina.

GOL Linhas Aereas is also adding frequencies. Starting on April 1, GOL will resume its daily connectivity between Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires, employing its Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 737 MAX 8 fleet, with a capacity for 186 passengers, as reported by Aviacionline.

In June, the airline is planning to resume its flights between Buenos Aires and Brasília.
