Aeromexico has rebranded its loyalty program Club Premier, which will now be known as Aeroméxico Rewards. After 31 years, the company’s loyalty program is set to have its largest shake-up.

Bye-bye Club Premier

During the first day of Mexico’s Tianguis Turístico, Aeromexico announced the rebranding of its loyalty program. This change comes after the airline regained complete control of Club Premier last year following a lengthy Chapter 11 bankruptcy process.

Aeroméxico Rewards will start on April 10, 2023. Andrés Conesa, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Aeromexico, emphasized the commitment to building an innovative and customer-centric brand with the evolution of Club Premier to Aeroméxico Rewards, improving passenger experience. The airline aims to offer the widest route network, the most advanced and environmentally friendly fleet, and the best loyalty program in the country.

Other Mexican airlines such as Volaris and Viva Aerobus also have loyalty programs. Volaris has v.club, and Viva Aerobus introduced Doters last year, earning over a million affiliates in its first months of operations.

What’s changing with the introduction of Aeroméxico Rewards?

Club Premier members should not worry about the rebranding of the loyalty program. Current Club Premier members will automatically become Aeroméxico Rewards members. The Mexican flag carrier said that one of the major benefits of Aeromexico Rewards is that the points they acquire will never expire, giving customers the freedom to accumulate points and use them whenever they want.

Additionally, customers will be able to enjoy more trips with fewer points, as the redemption prices for many popular destinations have been reduced. For example, customers can now travel within Mexico for as low as 10,000 points, compared to the previous minimum of 14,000 points. For each dollar spent with Aeromexico, a traveler earns eight puntos premier.

The new loyalty program will also enhance the travel experience by allowing customers to redeem their points for checked baggage, seat assignments and even contributing to carbon offset programs. The program will also provide a simpler digital experience through the airline's website and mobile application. With these new benefits, customers can now enjoy a more rewarding and hassle-free travel experience with Aeroméxico, the airline said in a statement.

With which airlines can Aeromexico Reward members earn points?

According to the website of Club Premier, members of the loyalty program can earn points with 19 additional airlines. These carriers are Aerolíneas Argentinas, Air Europa, Air France, China Airlines, China Eastern, Czech Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Garuda Indonesia, Kenya Airways, KLM, Korean Air, MEA, Saudia, TAROM, Vietnam Airlines, Xiamen Air, LATAM Airlines, Copa Airlines, and Avianca.

Aeromexico is a member of SkyTeam, as many of the airlines previously listed. Nonetheless, neither ITA Airways nor Virgin Atlantic –also members of SkyTeam– appear on Club Premier’s website.

Aeromexico to return to the Mexican and US stock

After its Chapter 11 bankruptcy process, Aeromexico was delisted from the Mexican Stock Exchange. Nonetheless, the carrier plans to return to the capital markets between the second half of this year and the first quarter of 2024. Andrés Conesa said that access to financing is important for the company. “The more sources of financing you have, the better,” he argued.
