Low-cost carrier Air Arabia Abu Dhabi will soon add to its India network and fly to Kolkata in East India. The airline already flies to six cities in India and has also been adding several other destinations to its network in the past few months. The latest service to Kolkata starts next month.

New flight to Kolkata

Air Arabia Abu Dhabi recently announced the launch of its new direct route connecting Abu Dhabi and Kolkata in India. The flight starts on March 15th and will operate three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.

The airline is likely to do well on this route, as currently, no other airline offers a direct flight between Kolkata and Abu Dhabi. Adel Al Ali, Group Chief Executive Officer of Air Arabia, commented,

“We are delighted to launch this new route, offering our customers an even wider choice of destinations in India. Kolkata is a vibrant city, and this new service will enable us to provide our customers base with more convenient and affordable opportunities for business, leisure, and cultural exchange between the two countries.”

Kolkata will be Air Arabia Abu Dhabi’s 7th destination in India. The airline already flies to Cochin, Calicut, Trivandrum, Chennai, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad. Per ch-aviation, the Abu Dhabi-based carrier has a fleet of eight Airbus A320 airplanes, while its parent company Air Arabia also flies the new generation A320neos and A321neos.

Network expansion

Kolkata isn’t the only new destination announced by Air Arabia Abu Dhabi recently. Just a few days ago, the low-cost carrier revealed two new routes from Abu Dhabi to Baghdad and Erbil in Iraq. The direct flights will connect Abu Dhabi International Airport to both Baghdad International Airport and Erbil International Airport with a frequency of two flights per week starting from June 22nd.

Earlier this month, the LCC also announced the launch of its new route from Abu Dhabi to Amman starting on March 12th. Air Arabia Abu Dhabi continues to add more connectivity, and its network now features several destinations in the region, including Tashkent, Alexandria, Sohag, Cairo, Dhaka, Khartoum, Chittagong, Kathmandu, Muscat, Salalah, Trabzon, Tbilisi, Faisalabad, Multan, Cochin, Calicut, Trivandrum, Istanbul Sabiha, Chennai, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bahrain, among others.

Air Arabia Abu Dhabi’s parent company Air Arabia recently reported a record profit of AED 1.2 billion ($327 million) in its annual financial results from 2022. This was nearly double its profit in 2021, which was AED 720 million ($196 million).

The budget airline grew consistently even during the pandemic and is expected to grow its annual traffic by around 25% through the mid-2020s.
