Air France Announces Network Expansion In Spain And Portugal

Air France today announced that in 2020 it has plans to expand its offerings in Spain and Portugal. The French flag carrier will launch services to four new destinations, three in Spain in addition to one Portuguese.

Air France today announced the details of four new short-haul routes to the west of Europe. The French carrier will launch the routes throughout the 2020 summer IATA season. The routes will all originate from Paris and will join other flights already offered to these destinations by other airlines in the Air France-KLM group. The flights will all operate on Saturdays from the 4th of April.

Paris to Faro

Transavia currently operates 13 flights per week to Faro from France. This sees nine flights per week from Paris-Orly, two from Lyon, and two from Nantes. However, Air France will be adding an additional flight into the mix. Once per week, on a Saturday, an Airbus A320 will be flown to the city of Faro from Paris’ Charles De Gaulle airport.

It will operate to the following schedule:

  • AF9418 will depart Paris at 06:50, arriving in Faro at 08:35;
  • AF9419 will then leave Faro at 09:25, arriving in Paris at 13:15.

Paris to Alicante

The Air France-KLM Group currently offers nine weekly flights to Alicante. KLM operates one weekly rotation to the Spanish city. Meanwhile, Transavia operates eight flights per week from Orly Airport in Paris. These flights will be joined by a once per week Air France Embraer E190 flight. The route will launch on Saturdays from the 4th of April.

The new route will operate to the following schedule:

  • AF9416 will depart Paris at 15:00, arriving in Alicante at 17:15;
  • AF941 will leave Alicante at 17:55, arriving in Paris at 20:15.

Paris to Malaga

Air France is looking to use its Airbus A319s to serve the region of Andalusia. From the fourth of April, a once per week service will commence from Charles De Gaulle. These services will accompany 10 weekly Transavia services, in addition to 43 codeshare flights operated by Delta and Air Europa. In fact, the 42 codeshare Air Europa flights operate from Charles De Gaulle.

The new Air France service will operate as follows on Saturdays:

  • AF9420 will depart Paris at 07:05, arriving in Malaga at 09:40;
  • AF9421 will leave Malaga at 10:35, arriving in Paris at 13:15.

Paris to Valencia

Last, but by no means least, Air France will launch a service connecting Paris’ Charles De Gaulle Airport with Valencia, the current host of the AviaDev Route Development Conference. The route will play host to the BabyBus as Air France will utilize the Airbus A318. The new route will accompany 22 weekly KLM flights and eight weekly Transavia flights from Paris’ Orly Airport. This is in addition to 42 weekly codeshare services from Paris Charles De Gaulle with Air Europa.

The final Air France route will operate once per week on Saturdays as follows:

  • AF9414 will depart Paris at 15:35, arriving in Valencia at 17:30;
  • AF9415 will leave Valencia at 18:20, arriving in Paris at 20:30.
