Canadian carrier Air Transat is expanding its virtual interlining service with the addition of Yukon-based Air North. The platform, known as connectair, will allow travelers to link up their Air Transat and Air North flights, connecting them across Edmonton, Kelowna, Victoria, Yellowknife, and Whitehorse, among 240 other domestic and international destinations currently available online.

New connections

“We are proud to be adding Air North to our virtual interlining service connectair by Air Transat, thereby enhancing connectivity both in Canada and internationally,” noted Michèle Barre, Vice-President of Network, Revenue Management, and Pricing at Air Transat. “This revolutionary service, which we offer exclusively in Canada, not only provides our loyal customers with an expanded offering of connection options, it also gives a broader pool of travelers the opportunity to experience Air Transat’s renowned hospitality and flying experience.”

Air North will join Avianca, Azores Airlines, easyJet, Loganair, Pascan, SKY express, and Vueling through connectair, increasing the number of destinations available to over 245.

“We’re delighted to offer our passengers the opportunity to seamlessly connect between award-winning airlines,” added Ben Ryan, Chief Commercial Officer at Air North.

“For example, passengers on our newest route to Toronto will have access to new connections to Montreal, as well as destinations in over 25 countries. And for Air Transat’s customers, much of Canada’s North is now within easy reach, giving them the opportunity to experience the culture, adventure, and incredible amenities found in the Yukon and Northwest Territories—and enjoy with our authentic Yukon hospitality along the way.”

Connections are available through Air Transat’s search engine and several flight aggregators. Bookings will be redirected through the connectair platform, with a guarantee in case of delays or cancellations to ensure passengers arrive at their destination as soon as possible.

Airline growth

Named by Skytrax as the World’s Best Leisure Airline in 2021, Air Transat has been moving to rapidly expand its network and partnerships. The carrier has recently worked alongside other fellow Canadian airlines, Air Canada and WestJet, with the latter announcing a new transatlantic codeshare in late April. The agreement, launched on May 4, will provide Canadian passengers with a better selection for transatlantic travel and further domestic connections.

“We are very excited to launch this codeshare agreement with WestJet,” said Barre at the time of the announcement.

“The complementarity of our respective networks allows us to offer more alternatives to our customers, providing them with a quality and affordable product. This partnership is part of Air Transat’s development strategy, enhancing our long-standing presence in the transatlantic market.”

Earlier this week, Air Transat unveiled its expansive winter season schedule, with plans to cover over 350 destinations worldwide with the help of connectair’s virtual interlining service and its codeshare agreements. The carrier itself is set to offer multiple weekly flights from eight cities across the country to destinations across the United States, the Caribbean, Central, and South America, and increase its European winter offerings through the winter season.
