Air Transat expects delivery of two more Airbus A321LR aircraft over the third quarter of this year. The carrier will add to its fleet of 10 A321LRs and will eventually welcome another five of the type from its leasing agreement with AerCap.

Two more Airbus A321LRs for Air Transat

In its financial results for the second quarter of 2022, Air Transat has revealed that two more Airbus A321LRs will join the airline in the next couple of months.

The Canadian leisure carrier is renewing its fleet with the efficient A321neoLR, which boasts a range of over 4,500 miles and fuel efficiency improvements of 15%.

Annick Guérard, President and Chief Executive Officer of Transat, said,

"For the longer term, we continue to implement our strategic plan. While continuing to receive new fuel-efficient aircraft to the fleet, we continue to develop our network by adding new destinations and connections, with or without codesharing."

The Air Transat A321LR fleet

Air Transat has 10 A321LRs with an average age of just two years. With the addition of two more this summer and another five on order, the airline will eventually have 17 in its fleet.

An Air Transat A321LR offers capacity for up to 199 passengers in a two-class configuration - 12 in business class and 187 in economy.

All 17 A321LRs to join the Air Transat fleet are part of a long-term leasing agreement with AerCap. The carrier took delivery of its first A321LR back in May 2019.

Financial results for Q2 2022

Air Transat posted a net loss of $98.3 million for the second quarter of 2022, an increase of over 40% on the same period in 2021. The carrier attributes the difference primarily to foreign exchange losses.

It also claims it would have posted positive adjusted operating results for April were it not for the sharp rise in fuel prices.

Annick Guérard added,

"When the effect of Omicron subsided at the end of February, operations and sales rebounded strongly, allowing us to end the quarter on a very encouraging note and generate revenues of $358 million for the period. We foresee a strong recovery and will continue to implement all the measures necessary to capitalize on it."

Things are still looking up for the Canadian airline, which launched its first California routes in May. The airline's Airbus A321LR fleet will be deployed on its two routes from Montreal to Los Angeles and San Francisco.

As Simple Flying reported, Air Transat plans to operate 69 direct routes this summer which will see the airline offer over 250 weekly flights.
