Continuing to lead the way in plane-based vaccination activities, Kassel Airport in Hessen, Germany, is offering the opportunity to get vaccinated on an Airbus A400M military aircraft. The German Luftwaffe (air force) will provide the plane for an eight-hour-long vaccination drive on Saturday.

Various fun, engaging, and sometimes bizarre vaccination offers have been launched as part of Germany's campaign to get as many individuals vaccinated as possible. From getting a vaccine at the top of a skyscraper to vaccinations on special "Vaccine Express" trams, and even free kebabs after a vaccine, it seems that no stone has been left unturned. Naturally, the aviation industry has also played its part.

Get vaccinated onboard an Airbus A400M

Unless you work for the military, your chances of stepping onboard an Airbus A400M are likely limited to the occasional airshow or open day. But, for residents in part of Germany, they'll be able to have a chance on Saturday, as first, second, and booster vaccines will be offered on the quad-prop plane.

Several parties have come together to make the vaccination offer possible. Running from 10:00 to 18:00, the aim is to give 500 doses of the vaccine. Both Moderna and BioNTech will be on offer but may be limited by age. The vaccination campaign is only possible with a prior reservation made here. The action follows the vaccine guidance in Germany, and as such, vaccines are being given from the age of five, with a pediatrician on-site to provide shots for children.

Those with appointments to be vaccinated will get the rare opportunity to step onboard an aircraft typically confined to military usage. The aircraft in question will be provided by the 62nd Air Transport Wing from Wunstorf. The plane will be parked on the general aviation apron near the field's tower. The airport clarified that those not being vaccinated (bar those accompanying those who need assistance) would not be able to pass the airport's perimeter fence.

Since its launch, the A400M has clocked almost 180 orders. Over 100 of these have been delivered so far. Germany has both the largest order for the type and the largest in-service fleet. The country is expecting 53 of the planes and has taken delivery of 37. According to ch-aviation.com, the aircraft have an average age of 3.9 years in the Luftwaffe fleet.

Last year, the country's Airbus A400Ms took center stage as events unfolded in Kabul, Afghanistan. They were used to evacuate individuals from Afghanistan to Tashkent in Uzbekistan. From there, they were flown to Germany onboard Lufthansa's Airbus A340s.
