As Airbus looks to boost its A220 production, the aircraft manufacturer is aiming to recruit up to 800 new employees across Canada, including 700 in the french speaking province of Quebec. The manufacturer also aims to bring more females into the profession and target young graduates for an aviation career.

With the aviation industry red hot post-pandemic, the manufacturer is looking to increase its production of the A220 jet and also improve the output of its helicopter and defense products. Airbus Canada Chief Executive Benoît Schultz noted that of the advertised roles, 500 would be new, with the remainder replacing departing or retiring current employees.

The fuel-efficient A220 is critical to Airbus' growth plan, as it acquired the Bombardier CS series production several years ago. The manufacturer maintains its Montreal Mirabel plant alongside its Mobile, Alabama production for US customers.

With recruitment planned for multiple areas of the organization, a focus will be on customer service, engineering, IT, production, and quality. Two-thirds of the new staff will be focussed on work support functions, with the remainder in production. Including Canadian Airbus subsidiaries, the manufacturer operates ten production sites, such as Airbus Helicopters Canada, located in Fort Erie, Ontario.
