American Airlines has announced a selection of new routes scheduled to begin in summer 2020. The eight additional routes announced earlier today bring the total of number of new routes due to launch in summer 2020 to 20.
In a press release published earlier today, America’s largest airline revealed eight additional routes due to begin operation in summer 2020.
The latest round of new routes are exclusively domestic, but a number of overseas destinations were announced earlier in the year.
Discussing the route expansion, American Airlines’ Senior Vice President of Network Strategy, Vasu Raja, said:
“Every year, we evaluate our network and look to create more routes and serve unique destinations whether we’re entering new markets like Casablanca or adding more service to places like Traverse City, Michigan.”
New domestic routes for summer 2020
American Airlines has focused on holiday destinations for its summer 2020 route expansion
The airline will operate four new domestic routes using its Embraer 175 jets. These will include flights to Martha’s Vineyard from Philadelphia and Charlotte, as well as a Philadelphia to Nantucket service.
Embraer 175 flights to Traverse City from Philadelphia and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport will also be available every Saturday.
Using its Airbus A319s, American Airlines will also offer passengers flights to Portland, Maine from Dallas-Fort Worth.
Meanwhile, Miami International Airport will also get new flights from Jackson–Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport and Des Moines International Airport.
American Airlines says it has timed these services to coincide with onwards international flights out of Miami International Airport. These destinations include Montego Bay in Jamaica, St. Vincent and Bonaire.
Previously announced seasonal destinations for summer 2020
Considering the considerable expansion planned for the summer 2020 season, American Airlines is clearly aiming to attract holiday-goers from across the country.
“Our future is bright, and we see summer 2020 as an opportunity for growth in the leisure destinations our customers truly value,” Vasu Raja said in today’s press release.
The airline has planned a number of regional short-haul flights for holiday goers who don’t fancy traveling too far.
New routes to Anchorage and Fairbanks in Alaska are part of the domestic route expansion planned for summer 2020.
Passengers looking to travel a bit further afield will also have a selection of new routes to choose from.
Chicago O’Hare International Airport will be the go-to airport for holidaymakers looking to travel to Eastern Europe.
American Airlines will be launching multiple flights per week to Budapest in Hungary, Krakow in Poland and Prague in the Czech Republic from Chicago O’Hare.
From Philadelphia, passengers will also be able to catch daily flights to Reykjavik, Iceland. For those looking to fly somewhere a bit hotter, a Philadelphia to Casablanca, Morocco service will also run three times per week.
An American Airlines spokesperson confirmed with Simple Flying that, “these new routes are popular leisure destinations that allow for optimal connections from across the country during the peak summer.”
All in all, there is a lot of choice for passengers looking to book a getaway for next summer, both inside the US and further afield.
Tickets for the new routes will be available to buy from Monday 25 November onwards.
