A five-star airport experience

American Airlines’ new airport service will launch next week and, unlike the airline’s other Five Star Services, it is available to passengers traveling in all classes. Even economy passengers can upgrade their airport experience. The most basic package starts from $149 and covers two adults traveling with up to three children or pets. Additional travelers cost just $25 per person.

The Five Star Essentials service includes airport greeting and priority check-in with additional assistance for selecting seats and baggage handling. Five Star Essentials customers will also be guided through priority security and will have assistance ensuring all bags and personal belongings stay together. Passengers will then be escorted through the airport to the departure gate.

Helping to calm nerves

The new Five Star Essentials service is available to all American Airlines passengers to help improve the airport experience. The service must be booked at least 72 hours before flying. AAdvantage members can pay using miles. The standard package will cost 15,000 miles, with additional travelers costing 2,500 miles per person.

The new service is currently available on domestic departures and connections at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, and Miami International Airport. But if it proves successful, it may be rolled out to include other major American Airlines hubs.

In a statement, Clarissa Sebastian, Managing Director of Premium Customer Experience and Onboard Products, said,

“Five Star Essentials is another way to help ease the journey for busy families or anyone who simply needs an extra set of hands to navigate through the airport. We know the airport can sometimes be time-consuming or nerve-racking, especially if you haven’t traveled in a while or are traveling during the holiday.”

Prepared for the Air

The new scheme links directly to American Airlines Prepared for the Air initiative in which the airline is trying to find ways to encourage passengers to resume flying. Studies have shown that public confidence in flying crumbled during the pandemic. The aviation industry is looking to recover over the summer months, but public opinion is still very divided.

On their website, American Airlines has outlined ways in which it hopes to inspire its passengers with confidence. The Prepared for the Air program includes increased flexibility for bookings and regularly updated travel restrictions. It also has access to the VeriFLY™ app, which allows travelers to ensure they meet all requirements for their destinations.

The airline has also produced a set of explanatory videos. The videos show how the airline cleans aircraft using Electrostatic spraying and the use of HEPA filters onboard.
