Big films have big marketing budgets, and nothing is bigger than Disney's latest chapter of Star Wars. The production studio has partnered with ANA to bring that magic to life with a C-3PO themed livery for one of their Boeing 777-200 aircraft through to December 14th.

What are the details?

From December 1st till December 14th (the release date of the movie), ANA will be offering passengers a chance to fly onboard a special Star Wars-themed aircraft. This has been done in partnership with Disney to celebrate the release of their latest Star Wars film, “The Rise of Skywalker.”

“ANA seeks to inspire joy in all of our passengers, and we believe the C-3POTM ANA JET allows us to showcase our more playful side,” said Mitsuo Tomita, Senior Vice President of ANA in the Press Release. “It is our goal to make every trip with ANA a memorable experience, and this aircraft is sure to provide long-lasting memories for each passenger.”

What is even better is that it is not just restricted to the outside livery, but passengers will also be delighted by cabin crew wearing C-3PO themed aprons and their boarding passes themselves being collectible themed items.

Not only that, passengers who do fly onboard go into the running to win some special prizes.

  • A scale model of the aircraft
  • A special unique pin
  • A pen... or in ANA's words, an "original C-3POTM ANA JET FriXion ballpoint pen"

To enter, you need to fly on the aircraft and be an ANA Mileage Club Member. I would suggest that these prizes are a little lackluster compared to, say, winning a trip on the new ANA A380 to Hawaii, but I guess Disney spent all the budget on the livery itself.

This is not the first time that ANA has done special Star Wars livery, having released an R2D2 droid livery for the previous Star Wars film.

Naturally, this may all seem like a bit much for a publicity campaign and the press release we got sent here at Simple Flying was telling this news like it was the bee's knees. However, we have to respect the sheer amount of effort that ANA and their partner Disney have gone to with this livery design. I know if I was a big fan, I'd love the chance to fly onboard.

What do you think? Will you hunt down this aircraft to fly onboard before it's gone?
