One of the most crucial learning points the aviation industry has taken this year, it is the importance of having an adequate operable workforce. While Avelo Airlines has not been experiencing any pilot shortages or retention issues, the ultra-low-cost carrier is still making efforts to shore up its supply of industry talent, including partnering with Alliance Aviation for flight training.

Partnering with a flight academy

Based in Fort Lauderdale and founded in 2010, Alliance Aviation is considered a premier flight training academy for airlines and commercial pilots in the US, with instructors that have over 20 years of experience in aviation training. Alliance Aviation also has international training centers in Colombia and Mexico. This makes the flight academy unique, as the mix of domestic and global sourcing of top-tier pilots provides an incremental stream of highly qualified international candidates for Avelo Airlines.

Alliance Aviation also holds various training programs for pilots and maintenance technicians from the Airbus A320, Boeing 737, 767, Embraer 190, and 145 to the ATR 500 in its state-of-the-art updated flight simulation centers. The training and fast-track placement program is purposefully designed for driven and devoted pilots who desire a lifelong aviation career packed with fulfillment and adventure. This is why Alliance Aviation has been trusted by several airlines worldwide, including Avianca, DHL, Spirit Airlines, and Viva Aerobus, to name a few.

Alliance Aviation Chief Executive Officer Federico Flores Navarro said:

"We are delighted to announce this partnership. Avelo Airlines is a great brand to bring under the Alliance Pilot Pipeline program. Through this partnership, Alliance Aviation will present new job opportunities to our graduates in the markets we serve and will help Avelo Airlines achieve its aggressive growth plans."

Bolstering the numbers

Although Avelo Airlines hasn't been affected by the issues plaguing several significant carriers worldwide, the problem of a pilot shortage within the US still lingers and could eventually seep into the ultra-low-cost carrier. Such a problem could especially be impactful once Avelo Airlines starts expanding its relatively small fleet and route network. Nonetheless, Avelo Airlines makes an effort to keep itself attractive to new hires by having competitive compensation, a unique set of travel benefits, and a fast pathway to the left seat.

The flight academy additionally offers a First Officer Preferred Referral Network pipeline through its Boeing 737, Airbus A320, and Embraer Foreign Conversion Program. Through its referral network, Alliance Aviation will help bolster Avelo Airlines' numbers by recommending highly qualified foreign First Officer candidates for a possible visa or work sponsorship, employment, and obtaining reciprocal or advanced licensing in the US.

Avelo Airlines Head of Flight Operations Captain Scott Hall said:

“While we have not experienced the pilot recruiting and retention challenges confronting other airlines, leveraging Alliance Aviation will expand our reservoir of top-tier pilots to draw from in the future. Alliance Aviation will be an exceptional addition to our existing portfolio of pilot recruiting partners. It is a great time to be a pilot, and Avelo Airlines is a great opportunity for pilots at any professional stage to take their career to new heights.”

The strengthening line

Adding Alliance Aviation to Avelo Airlines' existing portfolio of pilot recruiting partners will further supplement the airline's aggressive growth plans. These growth plans also include a goal to hire more than 150 pilots over the next year, and applications for anticipated First Officer openings are scheduled to begin in October. And hiring up its workforce aside, Avelo Airlines plans to open its new and advanced Flight Training Center in Orlando, where it has just opened its third base. With this new partnership and the center scheduled to open in early 2023, Avelo is putting measures in place to ensure it can staff this ambitious expansion.
