One of the newest airlines to step onto the US aviation scene is budget carrier Avelo Air. Avelo operated its first commercial service at the end of April and has been flying regularly out of Burbank Bob Hope Airport ever since. Today it announced that it would be giving away 500 round trip tickets to recent graduates in communities where the airline operates. Here’s what you need to know about the promotion.
Celebrating the Class of 2021
In addition to celebrating a return to travel this summer, Avelo Airlines is celebrating the Class of 2021 by giving away 500 (504 to be precise) round-trip tickets to recent graduates in communities where Avelo flies.
This giveaway, called the “Avelo Grads-on-the-Go sweepstakes,” will award 252 graduates (21 graduates in each of the 12 Avelo markets) with two round-trip tickets.

How to participate
Are you graduating from high school, college, university, or trade school this year? This Avelo promotion is meant for you- but only if you reside in a city served by Avelo. These are the 12 areas eligible:
- Bay Area and Sonoma County, California
- Bozeman, Montana
- Eugene, Oregon
- Grand Junction, Colorado
- Humboldt County, California
- Los Angeles, California
- Medford, Oregon
- Pasco and Tri-Cities, Washington
- Phoenix, Arizona
- Redding, California
- Redmond and Bend, Oregon
- Salt Lake City, Utah
Graduates can participate in this contest by going to aveloair.com/grads.
Avelo notes that a second entry can be earned by posting a picture or video related to their graduation on Twitter or Instagram and tagging @AveloAir and #AveloGradSweepstakes.
Eligible contestants have just under a month to enter this draw, as the entry deadline is July 20, 2021. Winners will then be selected at random by August 17th, 2021, with travel prizes required to be used by December 31st, 2021.

Targeting the Avelo passengers of today (and tomorrow)
This looks like a well-strategized promotion coming from Avelo. The ultra-low-cost carrier is targeting those who are on a tight budget with their core messaging centered on affordability and saving passengers money.
Youth and students would typically fit into this demographic- especially high-school graduates that might just find themselves in academic institutions for another four or six years.
With the airline’s status of being a fairly new startup, this will probably generate some decent brand recognition and awareness among potential Avelo passengers. Indeed, many Americans are eager to fly again and experience a vacation further afield than their hometowns and states.
Avelo currently operates three 189-seat Boeing 737-800 aircraft. Its business model as an ultra-low-cost carrier means that a low airfare will exclude the allowance for a carry-on bag as well as any checked baggage, which is available at extra cost.
