Avelo Airlines is having an extremely busy week, launching four new routes on Tuesday and Thursday. The new routes mark another major expansion into the low-cost carrier’s non-Florida service network from its Tweed New Haven base. Simple Flying first reported on the announcement of new HVN routes in early March.

Avelo Airlines Chairman and CEO Andrew Levy said,

“Avelo’s momentum at Tweed continues to build as we take flight today to three more popular destinations. Last November, we endeavored to make HVN Southern Connecticut’s most convenient airport. With today’s addition of Chicago, Raleigh-Durham and Washington, D.C., Avelo now brings more choice, affordability and ease-of-travel to the state than any other airline.”

Four new routes

Three of the four new routes are from Tweed New Haven Airport (HVN) in Southern Connecticut: to Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW), Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU), and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI). Inaugural flights on all three routes were conducted yesterday using Avelo Airlines’ Boeing 737-700 Next Generation aircraft with 147 economy seats. According to data from Ch-aviation, the carrier currently operates five aircraft of the type, with an average age of 15 years.

Lastly, the fourth new route is served by Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) in Los Angeles to and from Boise Airport (BOI) in Idaho. BUR is Avelo’s base on the West Coast, and it operates the 189-seat Boeing 737-800 Next-Generation aircraft. The inaugural flight on this route was operated earlier this week, on Tuesday, May 24th.

In addition, the carrier had also announced plans to launch another new route from BUR to Spokane International Airport (GEG), Washington, on May 25th. Simple Flying has reached out to Avelo Airlines seeking more information on the matter.

The details

All three routes from Tweed New Haven will be operated four times a week on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays. On the other hand, the BUR-BOI route is a twice-weekly service available for passengers on Mondays and Fridays.

To mark the massive expansion effort, Avelo Airlines is offering a special introductory price on all four routes. Passengers traveling to and from Washington D.C., Raleigh-Durham, and Chicago can do so for just $59, $79, and $89 one-way. Meanwhile, special pricing on the BUR-BOI route starts at $69. Of course, these introductory fares are available on a limited basis and only when booked before June 1st for flights out of BUR and June 3rd for flights out of HVN. In both cases, travel must be completed by November 7th, 2022.

Avelo and New Haven

Avelo started operating out of Tweed New Haven in November last year, and right from the outset, the carrier has been focused on making HVN “Southern Connecticut’s most convenient airport.” In the first six months of operating from HVN, all Avelo aircraft taking off from the airport would only land at one of six airports, all of which were in Florida.

However, since earlier this month, the carrier has been focused on adding more non-Florida routes from its second US hub. The first tranche of four new routes came earlier this month, followed by three more earlier this week. Only one planned HVN route is awaiting launch: the New Haven-Wilmington thrice-weekly service launching in approximately one month. By mid-July, Avelo Airlines will serve 14 routes from HVN.
