South American carriers Avianca and Boliviana de Aviación have signed an interline agreement. This partnership will allow customers from both companies to travel with a single ticket to and from seven cities in Bolivia to the around 125 routes and 24 cities offered by Avianca in the Americas and Europe.

A new partnership

Avianca has signed a new partnership with an airline in the Latin American region. On Monday, the Colombian carrier announced the launch of its interline agreement with Boliviana de Aviación. This partnership has been active since September 1st. It allows travelers to fly to and from seven cities in Bolivia with a single ticket, paying in a single transaction, having a single fare from origin to the final destination, and registering their luggage up to their final destination.”

Boliviana de Aviación is Bolivia’s state carrier. It operates around 717 weekly flights, including 43 to international destinations like São Paulo, Buenos Aires, Lima, Madrid, Miami, and Salta. With this new partnership, Boliviana’s passengers are able to access Avianca’s offer of around 125 routes in 24 countries in Latin America and Europe.

Julio Ordóñez, Avianca’s Director of Alliances, said that in 2022, the airline has carried more than 80,000 passengers to and from Bolivia. The load factor on its two routes to this country (from Bogota to La Paz and Viru Viru) has been more than 76%. He added,

“We know Bolivia is a market in constant growth and development, so we are excited to offer our customers multiple options to connect this country, with all the possibilities of travel through our network, thanks to this new agreement.”

Avianca’s partnerships

According to its website, Avianca now has interline agreements with 59 airlines globally. This includes 25 partner airlines members of Star Alliance, such as Aegean Airlines, Air Canada, Air China, Air India, All Nippon Airways, Copa Airlines, Lufthansa, SWISS, and more. Avianca also has non-Star Alliance partner airlines, such as Boliviana de Aviación, Aeroméxico, Azul, British Airways, GOL, KLM, JetBlue, and more.

The South American carrier also has codeshare agreements with 19 airlines. The latest codeshare agreement signed was with Colombia’s regional carrier EasyFly, which has allowed Avianca to increase its connectivity throughout Colombia by adding 18 domestic routes.

Through Avianca’s new interline agreement with Boliviana de Aviación, more customers will be able to enjoy more than 3,800 flights per week operated by Avianca, with more than 600,000 seats. They will also have the opportunity to connect through La Paz and Santa Cruz, with 11 routes to the interior of Bolivia, to visit cities such as Cochabamba, Cobija, Oruro, Sucre, and Trinidad, among others.

Avianca’s stronghold in South America

Following its Chapter 11 process, Avianca has strengthened its position across South America. The airline has launched a codeshare agreement with EasyFly, an interline partnership with Boliviana. It has also announced the acquisition of Viva Colombia and Viva Peru and the launch of the Abra Group Limited. This holding will encompass Avianca, GOL, Viva, and a 10% stake in Sky Airline. Governments are currently analyzing Abra Group Limited in South America and recently received its approval from Ecuador.
