Aviationtag has launched another charity auction, selling bag tags created from upcycled aircraft skin. The rare tags, often featuring exciting color combinations, are being sold in aid of the "Balthasar Children's & Young Adults' Hospice," based near the company's headquarters in Cologne.

When Germany was hit by catastrophic flooding last year, Aviationtag jumped right in, launching an auction of rare parts of the first Airbus A380 to enter passenger service. The auction was a huge success, with a large amount being generated to help those affected by the flooding.

Avaitiontag is now back at it with a new auction. This time, 14 parts of aircraft skin are up for grabs, with some already proving to be extremely popular on the eBay auction. The tags run from small propeller planes to the mighty Queen of the Skies. Each piece is slightly different from a typical Aviationtag.

Last year Simple Flying revealed that the company had created tags from Eva Air's last Boeing 747. Parts of the aircraft are still available on the company's website, though these have a single color. Three tags from the plane are part of the auction, each bearing text.

At the time of writing, the most popular piece is green with "DOOR" printed in white. This small part of aircraft skin currently has 78 bids, with the highest sitting at €1,155 ($1,318). The starting price two days ago was just €1 ($1.14). Two more parts from this aircraft also have bids exceeding €1,000, with the highest sitting at €1,260 ($1,438).

Alongside these are five special 2021 Christmas tags created in the run-up to the holidays last year. These are all made from the former El Al Boeing 747 registered as 4X-ELA. Unlike most tags on standard-sized cards, these Christmas editions come inside a small Christmas card. Aviationtag created 200 of the Christmas tags. They were never placed on sale and were given to their business partners. All five of the Christmas tags had top bids ranging from €150-151 ($171-172) at the time of writing.

All for a good cause

As mentioned, Aviationtag is auctioning these rare pieces of the aircraft skin to raise money for the Balthasar Children's & Young Adults' Hospice. The hospice provides support to families when a child or young adult is diagnosed with a terminal condition. This can range from helping deal with a diagnosis to offering a comfortable and happy place for children and families to spend their final moments together and for the latter to grieve.
