Azores Airlines and STG Aerospace are partnering to offer a new cabin mood lightning for the carrier’s Airbus A320 family fleet. This new partnership is looking to portray the unique natural beauty of the Azores islands throughout the cabin with an extensive blue and green palette that recalls the landscape of the archipelago located in the Atlantic Ocean.

A new cabin mood lighting

On Tuesday, STG Aerospace announced Azores Airlines will begin employing the liTeMood cabin lighting experience for its Airbus A320 family fleet. The Portuguese carrier has selected this cabin lighting for five Airbus A321neo, including the airline’s LRs. The first one has already been fitted and is flying, with the rest of the fleet to follow shortly.

This cabin lighting experience will be unique for the airline and will be accompanied by the sounds of nature from the Azores, creating a unique and immersive experience within the cabin and improving the passenger experience.

Graça Silva, Head of Brand, Marketing, and Communication at Azores Airlines, commented, “We wanted to capture the essence of the Azores landscape in our cabin lighting experience – the dramatic landscapes, the surrounding Atlantic Ocean, green forests and hedgerows of blue hydrangeas that encapsulate our region.”

She added that the liTeMood system allows Azores Airlines to do just that, recreating the colors and emotions of the Azores, so the passengers can experience them onboard with the accompanying sounds before they have even landed in the Atlantic archipelago.

Choosing this lightning for its long-range fleet

Azores Airlines selected the liTeMood cabin lightning as a critical stepping point to making passengers comfortable on long-haul flights. The carrier has a fleet of eight aircraft, all from the Airbus A320 family, including two A321neos and three A321neo LR.

Azores Airlines operate five routes of over 2,500 miles in distance, with the longest being between Madeira’s Funchal International Airport (FNC) and New York’s John F. Kennedy International (JFK), at 3,158 miles. This flight is about six and a half hours long on a narrowbody jet.

The airline currently holds the record for the longest commercial flight onboard an A321LR, which was between Lisbon and Bogota in January 2021. That flight is 4,678 miles long and lasts, on average, over nine hours. Currently, Azores Airlines connects Paris and New York with two weekly rotations, making only brief stops in the Azores, as well as operating flights from Boston and Toronto to the Azores.

The flight from Toronto (YYZ) to Ponta Delgada (PDL) is 2,812 miles long and lasts at least five hours and 50 minutes. Meanwhile, the service between Boston and Ponta Delgada is 2,395 miles long.

Pierre Michard, Director of Sales & Programmes at STG Aerospace said Azores Airlines leveraged the industry downtime to innovate and completely reinvent its passenger experience. “lITeMood’s capabilities allow airlines to create extraordinary lighting scenes, so it’s always exciting to see the challenges our clients pose to us and the results we can produce,” he added.
