The Brazilian carrier Azul Linhas Aereas has announced a relaxation in the rules regarding the personal presentation of its pilots, cabin crew, and airport members. Now they will be available to use piercings and tattoos.

New rules

From now on, Azul's pilots and flight attendants can wear ear and eyebrow piercings, show off their tattoos on their arms and legs, and vary their hairstyles – from colors to hairstyles.

The company, following the safety norms, has said it listened to the suggestions of the flight attendants to create a new manual for uniforms and personal presentation.

Daniel Tkacz, Azul's Vice-President of Operations, said,

“The uniforms of the pilots and flight attendants are part of the flight experience for the crew and customers and are also designed with safety issues in mind. We understand that some changes, suggested by the pilots themselves, could be incorporated to make the team's daily routine more comfortable, respecting the style and personality of each one.”

New looks - embracing personalities

The new rules allow pilots and cabin crew members to be more daring in their personal styles. Azul’s will now let more options for make-up, nail polish, hair colors, and hairstyles, both for women and men. According to the airline, men can even wear long hair, as long as it is tied up in a ponytail or a samurai bun.

The use of the blazer by flight attendants has become optional - previously, it was required to be worn during boarding and disembarkation.

But not only pilots and cabin crew members will be benefited from the new rules.

The team that works on the ground at airports across Brazil will also be able to update its style, prioritizing comfort. Among the main changes, they will be able to use sneakers and accessories (such as piercings and tattoos). The use of headscarves, which are part of the uniform, is now optional, prioritizing the crew member's comfort and safety.

These new rules, besides being more modern, are also better aligned with the Brazilian reality, said Azul.

Jason Ward, Vice-President of People and Clients at Azul, added,

"For the Airports team, the changes were designed to bring more comfort, always prioritizing safety. The personal presentation, both for airline employees and the ground team, is part of what Azul is, and we want all our crew members to feel well enough to perform their duties in the best possible way.”

Finally, in addition to the changes already put in place, a committee was created to constantly analyze new possibilities to make the personal presentation guidelines more pleasant and comfortable for the teams involved.
