Bamboo Airways is planning to launch direct flights between Vietnam and Germany. The Vietnamese carrier today announced a memorandum of understanding with Munich Airport regarding the matter.

Since its launch early last year, Bamboo Airways has been busy expanding across Vietnam and Asia. However, now the airline is beginning to receive Boeing 787 Dreamliners, it is time to branch out further afield. We already know that Bamboo Airways will launch flights to Prague later this month, however, the Vietnamese carrier has now announced that Munich in Germany is its next planned destination within Europe.

Next European destination

Bamboo Airways has decided that Munich in Germany will become its second European route. The Vietnamese carrier signed a memorandum of understanding with the airport regarding the route in a ceremony earlier today. The agreement was signed between Bui Quang Dung who is the Deputy General Director of Bamboo Airways and Andreas von Puttkamer who is the Senior Vice President of Aviation at Munich Airport.

According to the airline, it plans to launch the route to Munich in July. The airline currently plans to operate flights to Munich from two points of origin. This will see one flight per week from Hanoi, in addition to another two flights per week from Ho Chi Minh City. These flights would be operated by the airline's Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

Speaking of the new route announcement, Andreas von Puttkamer said:

"The new connections to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City will give us direct access to this important future market for the first time. This is the excellent response to the steadily growing interest in Vietnam as a travel destination. And we are especially pleased that Bamboo Airways will serve these routes with the environmentally friendly Boeing 787 Dreamliner."

European flights to start this month

The flights announced by Bamboo Airways today will accompany the airline's new Prague flight due to launch later this month. From the 29th of March, the Vietnamese carrier will begin flying to Europe. The airline will fly to Prague two times per week from Hanoi. While these flights will be launched with the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the airline has also been in talks with Boeing regarding a 777X order.

However, this won't be accompanied by flights from Ho Chi Minh City for the time being. Bamboo has said that depending on demand for the route, it could increase its capacity on the route by adding additional flights.

Last month Bamboo Airways was forced to suspend its flights to South Korea late last month. This was prompted by the ongoing coronavirus outbreak in the East Asian region. However, the airline hasn't yet needed to cancel any additional routes due to the effect of the virus.
