Under its CityFlyer brand, the United Kingdom national flag carrier British Airways plans to operate four new European routes from London City Airport (LCY). By adding to its extensive European network, British Airways says customers can now book summer getaways from London to Barcelona, Luxembourg, Milan, and Thessaloniki.

British Airways says it will deploy its BA CityFlyer's Embraer E190 aircraft on the four new routes. The Brazillian-built Embraer E190 offers 98 seats and is popular with frequent flyers, thanks to having no middle seat. Regarding the launch of the new London City Airport flights, Luxemburg and Milan will commence from March 27, 2022, with flights to Thessaloniki starting on June 18 and Barcelona on June 19.

British Airways will once more fly to the Channel Islands from LCY

Together with the four new destinations from LCY, British Airways says it is bringing back flights from the docklands to the Channel Islands of Jersey and Guernsey from June 20 until September 2, 2022.

When speaking about the new flights from LCY in a British Airways statement released earlier this week, Managing Director of BA CityFlyer Tom Stoddart said:

"As customers start to plan their next summer getaway, we wanted to offer new routes to some of the most popular European destinations. Conveniently accessible from London City Airport, they are a great addition to our extensive network."

Based on British Airways Euro Traveler return fares, customers will be able to fly to the new LCY destinations for the following fares:

  • To Barcelona Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN) from £82
  • To Luxembourg Airport (LUX) from £82
  • To Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) from £104. The introduction of the new MXP flights replaces British Airways flights to Milan Linate Airport (LIN)
  • To Thessaloniki Airport Makedonia (SKG) from £126

About London City Airport (LCY)

Located in the Royal Docks in the London Borough of Newham, approximately six miles from London's financial district London City Airport (LCY) is primarily used by business travelers. Also, due to its proximity to central London, the airport operates under stringent rules to limit aircraft noise.

LCY has a single 4,948 feet long runway that, together with its steep approach glide path, determines the type of aircraft that can take off and land at it. Currently, the largest aircraft to operate in and out of LCY is the 127 seat Airbus A220-100. Despite being limited to regional and short-haul aircraft, pre-pandemic LCY handled over five million passengers in 2019.
