British Airways has operated its first flight to Toronto using its new Airbus A350 aircraft. The Toronto flight was due to be the type's inaugural long haul flight for the British flag carrier. However, the aircraft entered long-haul service sooner than anticipated, flying to Dubai.

The Airbus A350 is the latest aircraft type to enter British Airways' fleet. The new aircraft has seen British Airways ditch its first-class offering, while also revealing a brand new business class cabin. The first Toronto flight was operated by British Airways' second new Airbus A350, G-XWBB.

First Toronto flight

Yesterday, the 1st of October 2019, marked British Airways' first flight to Toronto using the carrier's new Airbus A350-1000 aircraft. With a flight time of 7-hours and 10-minutes, the aircraft actually landed in the Canadian city earlier than had been scheduled. According to data from FlightRadar24, the flight covered a great circle distance of 5,723 kilometers.

The flight to Toronto yesterday was operated by the airline's second Airbus A350-1000, registered as G-XWBB. The aircraft was delivered to British Airways on the 19th of September, before undergoing entry to service checks. On the 28th of September, the aircraft made its first long-haul flight to Dubai.

Toronto, but first Dubai

Yesterday's flight to Toronto was originally billed as the carrier's first long haul passenger flight of the Airbus A350. However, from the 2nd of September, the Airbus A350 has been serving the carrier's route to Dubai.

British Airways has already stopped operating the Airbus A350 to Dubai. As such, the type is temporarily serving Madrid again. From the 1st to the 7th of October, the A350 will be serving Toronto and Madrid, before switching to Toronto and Dubai from the 8th onwards.

Gerard McEvoy, British Airways' VP Sales North America, said,

“We’re thrilled to be launching our new A350 from Toronto, a city we’ve flown to and from for nearly 60 years. The A350 and our new Club Suite business class seat deliver new levels of sophistication, comfort and privacy, and we’re proud to share this with our Canadian customers”

Club Suite

Business class passengers on board the aircraft yesterday would've been in for a treat as BA's Airbus A350s have the carrier's brand new Club World product. This sees each passenger travelling in a fully enclosed suite. The suite's seat transforms into a lie-flat bed, and every passenger has gate-to-gate inflight entertainment.
