Swiss aviation company Comlux has begun constructing its slick VIP hangar at Dubai World Central Airport. The ultra-modern 12,000-square-meter facility, offering jet parking, maintenance, and other perks such as lounges, is set to open by the end of 2023.

The new hangar facility will be located at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Aerospace Hub (MBRAH) adjacent to Dubai World Central Airport (DWC), also known as Al Maktoum International Airport. Included in the 12,000-square-meter facility is a 5,000-square-meter hangar that can accommodate two Airbus Corporate Jet (ACJ) or Boeing Business Jet (BBJ) family aircraft types at once (up to a maximum of ACJ321 or BBJ3 size).

Additionally, there will be a three-floor 2,250-square-meter building adjacent to the hangar - the ground floor will hold 750 square meters of technical shops, while the remaining two floors will offer meeting rooms, lounges, commercial/management offices and a showroom for the upcoming ACJ TwoTwenty jet.

A groundbreaking ceremony signaled the beginning of construction work, attended by Tahnoon Saif, CEO of Mohammed Bin Rashid Aerospace Hub, and Richard Gaona, Executive Chairman, and CEO of Comlux. Saif said,

"We are pleased to attend the groundbreaking of Comlux’s new facility, which will present an added value for VIP clients across the region and the overall business aviation sector. At Dubai South, our mandate is to foster our wise leadership’s vision of making the emirate becoming a leading global aviation hub. We will spare no effort in attracting top companies towards that end by supporting companies, such as Comlux, with their needs to complete and operate the new facility."

The DWC VIP hangar was first announced in 2021 after Comlux signed an agreement with Dubai authorities at the Dubai Air Show 2021. The Middle East has grown into a key market for Comlux, which offers global VIP charter, sales, interior and maintenance services.

Running on solar power

Dubai - one of the sunniest cities on Earth at over 3,500 sunshine hours per year - is the perfect place to utilize solar power. Comlux says that its new facility will be capable of running exclusively on solar power by the time it is operational in 2023.

Importantly for clients, the VIP terminal will have the facilities to conduct line maintenance and cabin refits. Its cabin outfitter wing, Comlux Completion, will establish a satellite base at the VIP terminal alongside its main completion center in Indianapolis.

Comlux CEO Richard Gaona added,

"I am extremely grateful to MBRAH’s team for providing us with the ideal location and all the support required to launch the construction of our new facility at Dubai South. Next year, Comlux will have been in operation for 20 years; this project is another milestone in the development of Comlux worldwide, and Dubai is the ideal location to serve our Middle East and Africa customers. We look forward to welcoming them within one of the most modern and environmentally friendly centers in Dubai to provide them with high-quality and cost-efficient solutions for their VIP cabin changes and minor upgrades during their maintenance grounding time."
