Condor Adds Edmonton To Route Network

Newly-single Condor has announced a brand-new route from Germany to Canada. The airline will be operating a service from Frankfurt to Edmonton twice weekly as it develops its network. The carrier announced the plans last week alongside extensions to existing routes.

Frankfurt to Edmonton

Upgrading its Summer 2020 schedule, German leisure airline Condor will now add Edmonton as its sixth Canadian destination. The air carrier proudly announced last week that it will be flying to Edmonton on Mondays and Thursdays in summer next year.

The service will start on 1st June 2020 and will leave Frankfurt International Airport at 17:35 and arrive in Edmonton at 19:20 on both days. The return journey will be an overnight flight departing at 21:20 and will arrive at Frankurt International at 14:45 the next day. The airline has chosen the Boeing 767-300ER to operate this service which it reserves for long-haul routes.

Even more destinations

But the Edmonton route was not the only news that Condor announced last week. It has also scheduled flights once more from Munich for summer 2020. The airline had previously operated some of the routes from Munich under Thomas Cook but after the company’s collapse, Condor is reinstating the routes as its own.

Condor will fly from Munich to Mexico, the Dominican Republic, the United States, and another Canadian destination. The schedules for these routes begin from May 2020 and are as follows:

Condor will fly to Cancun in Mexico on Mondays. It will fly between Munich and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic on Wednesdays and to Halifax in Canada on Fridays. Condor will then offer three weekly flights to Seattle, where it previously operated, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

As well as the route additions, Condor also has special plans for Munich. It will station a Boeing 767 at the airport. But there’s more. Condor will also be reviving flights from Frankfurt to New Orleans, Barbados, and Tobago next summer.

Extensive route development

The news comes as part of what seems to be a massive network overhaul which has also seen Condor add new flights to Greece, Montenegro, and France. But the summer season is always a good time to capitalize on holidaymakers. And keeping them happy is what’s important for Condor. In a press release, CEO of Condor Ralf Teckentrup had this to say:

“…we are ideally expanding our existing summer flight schedule 2020…We are thus offering our guests in southern Germany an even greater selection of direct connections to their holidays and are strengthening our presence in Munich with a stationed long-haul aircraft.“

Condor is starting in Munich modestly with just four long-haul routes offered for summer 2020. By comparison, the new Edmonton route brings Condor’s long-haul network out of Frankfurt to 34 destinations.

Despite Thomas Cook’s insolvency, the airline seems to be thriving. Earlier this year, it recorded increased profits and passenger numbers even though it hasn’t been able to secure a new owner. But with its route network going from strength to strength, it’s hoping to offer potential investors a good reason to buy-in.
