Corendon Airlines Group has announced a leasing agreement with Air Lease Corporation (ALC) for nine Boeing 737 MAXs - six MAX 8s and three MAX 9s. Five jets will join the carrier as early as this spring, while the remaining planes will arrive in 2023.

Nine Boeing 737 MAXs for Corendon

Corendon Airlines will bolster its fleet with the addition of six MAX 8s and three MAX 9s. The planes have been acquired on lease from ALC, with five MAX 8s to be delivered this spring.

Five new MAX 8s are set for Corendon Airlines' Turkish operations in Spring 2022, with the remaining MAX 8 to arrive in the first quarter of 2023. The airline will also lease three new MAX 9s to be delivered in the first half of 2023. All nine 737 MAX aircraft will come from ALC’s order book with Boeing.

Steven F. Udvar-Házy, Executive Chairman of Air Lease Corporation, said,

"ALC is a major lessor to the Corendon Airlines Group with three operating airlines in the Netherlands, Malta and Turkey, and we are pleased to announce these lease placements today. These nine new Boeing 737 aircraft offer the most modern, fuel-efficient new technology that will greatly enhance Corendon’s overall fleet operations and passenger experience."

MAX fleet will grow considerably

Corendon Airlines Group operates almost exclusively with the Boeing 737-800, with just one 737 MAX in its fleet. The carrier has 27 737-800s with an average age of 13 years. 15 of these are with its Turkish branch (CAI), while 12 more operate under its two European subsidiaries, Corendon Dutch Airlines (CND) and Corendon Airlines Europe (CXI).

Yildiray Karaer, Chairman of the Corendon Group, said,

"We appreciate and thank ALC for the long-time cooperation and fleet support."

Its sole MAX 8 has been deployed on the airline's Turkish routes with CAI. Corendon's new MAX 9s are not destined for its Turkish theater. Instead, the MAX 9s will serve under one of its subsidiaries.

Spokesperson Audrey Denkelaar told Luchtvaartnieuws,

"Whether they come to the Dutch AOC or to that of Corendon Airlines Europe will be determined later."
