Czech Airlines Technics, a subsidiary of Prague Airport, has continued to secure new contracts and is still seeing sustained business growth despite the downturn in the aviation industry. In 2021, this aircraft maintenance provider actually managed to exceed its average annual capacity.

A promising period for Czech Airlines Technics

Even though aviation has been badly scarred over the past two years, some sectors within the industry have continued to perform well.

Industry sectors like aircraft maintenance are one such example. They are not dependent on passenger demand for their revenue streams, so they continue to operate relatively smoothly because regulatory standards remain unchanged regardless of a downturn in passenger numbers.

Czech Airlines Technics, an aircraft repair and maintenance company that is a subsidiary of Prague Airport, managed to have a great 2021 thanks to its modernization of the electroplating and paint shops. Furthermore, additional investments in the landing gear shop equipment have helped to increase the efficiency and quality of its work.

The company actually managed to exceed its average annual capacity for 2021, having completed 33 landing gear set overhauls.

It now has 20 years of experience performing overhauls of landing gear sets for Boeing 737 aircraft, and it is doing so for both the new and the classic generation.

When the overhaul is taking place, airlines have the option of leasing or exchanging a spare landing gear set: Czech Airlines Technics currently owns six complete B737NG replacement sets and one for B737CG aircraft type.

A successful year with several major European airlines

Czech Airlines Technics' main clients are KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and its subsidiaries Transavia and Transavia France.

A major client is also the Prague-based Smartwings, which owns the Czech flag carrier, Czech Airlines, which has not been doing very well recently.

Recently, the company also signed a new contract with LOT Polish Airlines. Other new contract-based customers are TAROM of Romania, Corendon Dutch Airline, and Ukraine International Airlines.

However, the company also counts lessors as its customers. They are AMAC Aerospace, World Star Aviation, Aviation Capital Group, and Horizon Aviation 4 Ltd.

Commenting on the company's performance, Pavel Haleš, the Chairman of the Czech Airlines Technics Board of Directors, said:

"Despite the challenges in obtaining orders from clients, alongside confirmations of set slots, especially during the last two years, the Landing Gear Maintenance team managed to complete 33 landing gear set overhauls in 2021, which is more than in previous years. In addition, we performed a great number of other repairs, individual component exchanges, and electroplating jobs."

The successful performance of Czech Airlines Technics stands in sharp contrast with the poor performance of Czech Airlines, which is undergoing business restructuring. The two companies are now completely separate.
