Dassault Aviation’s large-cabin business jet, the Falcon 10X, is hitting the right notes in terms of its groundbreaking cabin design. In recent weeks, the cabin was shortlisted for the design et all International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2022 in both the Private Jet Design and the Interior Design categories.

It’s up against the Gulfstream G700 and Alice by Eviation in the first group, and the G400 and Bombardier Global 7500 by Kimberly Williams in the second. The awards are due to be announced in a ceremony at the Belmond Hotel Cipriani, Venice next week, on May 27th. Whether Dassault wins or not, just making it to the shortlist is reason to celebrate for sure.

The Falcon 10X scoops a Red Dot

But Dassault has a good reason to celebrate this weekend, as the Falcon 10X has received an award of distinction in its category at the world leading Red Dot Design Awards. The manufacturer says this is one of the most distinguished prizes in the design world and a sought-after mark of brand excellence.

Chairman and CEO Eric Trappier commented,

“Dassault Aviation stands apart in its ability to blend high technology ̶ the company is a world leader in aerodynamics and digital flight control ̶ with cabin aesthetics and the inventive use of modern design. The objective is to raise the bar in terms of passenger experience, which is what you will see in the 10X.”

This year saw a record number of entrants to the Red Dot Awards, with products from a broad range of industries competing for the accolade. Past winners have included everything from vacuum cleaners and soap dispensers to smart helmets and laptops. Dassault previously received awards for the Falcon 6X interior in 2021 and the 2000S in 2012.

What’s inside the Falcon 10X?

The Falcon 10X is currently in development, but is set to be the largest purpose-built business jet in the world. It has a range of 7,500 nautical miles and a top speed of Mach 0.925.

The interior is huge, with 2,780 cubic feet (78.7 cubic meters) of space, complemented by a generous head height of six feet 8 inches (just over two meters). The interior space is modular, allowing customers to specify the layout to suit their lifestyle.

For the awards, the concept design focussed on blurring the lines between home and jet, integrating ergonomic features for extreme comfort, something that will be an asset given the jet’s up to 16 hours flying time.

The spaciousness of the interior is further complemented by the removal of view-blocking hardware, and recessed controls for a sleek finish. Space is the order of the day, with abundant room to move built-in around the tables and seats. The modular tables enable comfortable working, dining, and relaxing.

The large windows allow natural light to flood in, but in the cinema and spa-like bathrooms, electrochromic functionality keeps the light out when needed. Advanced sound dampening means the 10X is the quietest in its class, striving for an experience that is more akin to chilling in a penthouse than flying around the world.

As well as all this, 10X features a host of wellness attributes, including 100% pure air and a new environmental system permitting precise temperature control in each passenger section.

Those lucky enough to be attending the European Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition in Geneva (EBACE) from May 23rd to May 25th will be able to view a full-scale mockup of the cabin. For the rest of us, the photographs and our dreams will have to suffice.
