Delta Air Lines has announced three new international services, including two never-before-operated routes from Atlanta to Cape Town and Los Angeles to Tahiti set to launch in December. The carrier will also add Atlanta-Tel Aviv beginning in May next year to make it 13 weekly services to the Israeli city.

Delta's international additions

Delta passengers can now visit two brand-new destinations after the airline announced fresh additions to its network. Along with first-time destinations Tahiti and Cape Town, the airline will bolster its Tel Aviv services.

Joe Esposito, Delta’s Senior Vice President Network Planning, said,

"Offering our customers new and additional access to these international cultural powerhouses is central to our unwavering commitment to connect the world. As we continue to invest in our leading-airline position in Atlanta and Los Angeles, we know our customers will enjoy unparalleled connectivity to Delta’s global network, coupled with our award-winning hospitality, whether they’re traveling for business or pleasure."

Starting in December, Delta will launch its much-awaited Atlanta-Cape Town service with three flights a week. At the same time, the airline will begin thrice-weekly flights to Tahiti out of Los Angeles.

The following May, Delta will add three more flights to its Tel Aviv network with the addition of Atlanta, joining the 10-weekly services from Boston and New York.

Atlanta to Cape Town

This one has been a long time in the making. Simple Flying readers will recall Delta and United going head to head over Cape Town flight rights earlier this year. The US Department of Transport eventually secured two additional South African slots, leaving both carriers free to launch new services.

From December 17th, Delta will operate three weekly flights (Monday, Thursday and Saturday) between Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) and Cape Town International Airport (CPT).

The full schedule is as follows:

  • Flight DL210 - ATL to CPT - departing 8:50PM, arriving 6:15PM+1
  • Flight DL211 - CPT to ATL - departing 10:50PM, arriving 8:00AM+1

Flights will be operated by Delta's Airbus A350-900 offering 306 seats - 32 Delta One Suites, 48 Premium Select recliners, 36 Comfort+ seats and 190 economy seats.

Los Angeles to Tahiti

Delta will become the first US-based carrier to fly between Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Tahiti International Airport (PPT) in over three decades from December 17th.

The airline will also be just the second US carrier to offer direct flights from the mainland US alongside United Airlines' service from San Francisco.

Justin Erbacci, CEO of Los Angeles World Airports, said,

"International service is recovering at LAX, and we are excited for the addition of new routes to destinations around the globe, providing our guests more vacation and travel options. We are thrilled that Delta is adding a new route to Tahiti, building their service and leveraging our shared investment in our airport facilities, including the incredible new Terminal 3 headhouse we recently opened together at LAX."

Flights will be operated on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday from December 17th, onboard a Delta Boeing 767-300ER seating 226 passengers, featuring 26 Delta One, 35 Comfort+ and 165 economy seats.

Delta will join Skyteam partner Air France and Air Tahiti Nui on this route, which has seen service from other notable carriers in the past, including Qantas and Air New Zealand.

The full schedule is as follows:

  • Flight DL119 - LAX - PPT - departing 11:10AM, arriving 6:10PM
  • Flight DL118 - PPT - LAX - departing 8:10PM, arriving 6:40AM+1

Atlanta to Tel Aviv

Starting on May 8th, 2023, Delta will add to its Tel Aviv network with the addition of three weekly Atlanta flights, joining the 10-weekly services from Boston and New York.

This service will fly on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays onboard an Airbus A350-900 and marks Delta's first direct flights between the two destinations in over a decade.

Yael Golan, Consul and Director, Southern Region USA, Israel Ministry of Tourism, said,

"It’s truly amazing to have Delta reinstate its Atlanta-Tel Aviv route that originally launched more than 16 years ago. With almost 250,000 visitors arriving in Israel this June alone, we’re already almost back to 2019 numbers."

The full schedule is as follows:
