Delta Air Lines has unveiled its newest Sky Club at Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) hub. The expansive lounge, which is the fifth in Detroit, is part of Delta's commitment to enhance its airport offerings with more dedicated lounge space for premium customers. The lounge is now open and in operation.

Delta's new Detroit Sky Club

Delta Air Lines has opened its new Sky Club in DTW's Concourse A. The lounge is located across from Gate A43. The new lounge is a 4,600-square-foot space with room for up to 100 guests. Delta boasts that the lounge overlooks the concourse and existing main Sky Club, located across from A38.

The new Sky Club builds upon the airline's continued focus of bringing local flair into its premium spaces. The new lounge space features premium beverage offerings, including local-made microbrews and curated art pieces from local artists. The focus is on representing the vibrant Detroit.

The new lounge also includes a premium bar. This is where customers can access complimentary beverages, premium wines, spirits, beer, and signature cocktails. Buffet-style food offerings are also available for customers.

There are a variety of ways to access the Sky Club. One way is to purchase a membership to access the clubs while flying on Delta or a Delta partner. Customers booked in Delta One or a premium cabin on a SkyTeam carrier also receive complimentary access to lounges. In addition, SkyTeam Elite Plus members connecting to or from an international flight can access the Sky Clubs. In addition, several credit cards also offer access to lounges.

The fifth lounge at Detroit

This newest lounge is the fifth Delta Sky Club in Detroit. It opened to travelers on December 7th. Ahead of the busy holiday travel season, the new lounge space will offer a space to relax and unwind in the terminal. However, this lounge is more than just a temporary expansion of premium ground space.

Claude Roussel, Managing Director - Delta Sky Clubs, stated the following on the new lounge:

“The opening of a fifth Delta Sky Club in Detroit demonstrates our investment in the city and our customers’ demand for Club experiences. We've put care into every detail — from the local artwork to the Club design – to create an elevated experience for guests and provide a space that allows them to rest easy this holiday season.”

Delta Air Lines in Detroit

Delta's Detroit hub is the second-largest in its system. According to data from Cirium, DTW has up to 320 daily departures this month from Delta. This equates to just under 243,000 seats per week. Detroit is a major hub that offers many different traffic flows. This includes east-west traffic, some north-south traffic, and an Eastern US hub for flights to Asia. Delta also offers transatlantic service from Detroit.

Delta inherited its hub in Detroit from its merger with Northwest Airlines. Detroit was formerly the largest hub for Northwest Airlines and served as a global gateway. As a result of prioritizing synergies post-merger, Delta Air Lines has downsized some of the hub compared to the Northwest days, but it remains an important gateway for the airline. The hub also continues to boast flights to Asia, something other Delta hubs in the Eastern United States, except for Atlanta, do not have.

As one of Delta's most important hubs, the airline is ensuring it has the right premium footprint to cater to the premium travelers to whom it has dedicated much of its attention. With Detroit remaining a vital hub for the airline, the fifth lounge space will be a new, modernized club that will offer an enhanced space for premium passengers.
