easyJet (EZY) has launched a new recruiting campaign in the UK. The airline is encouraging adults over the age of 45 to join as cabin crew members. The campaign, called ‘Empty Nesters Take Flight,’ is aimed at parents whose children have left the family home or have started their own careers, but also at anyone looking for a new career challenge later in life.

Age is not a limit

In the UK, around 78% of British parents aged 45 and over want to take on a new challenge once their children fly the nest. With that in mind, the airline has set in motion a new campaign encouraging these empty nesters to join its ranks. Moreover, since 2018, easyJet has seen a 27% increase in cabin crew members over the age of 45.

A research made by easyJet showed the top ten most desirable new career choices for those over 45. While charity work and volunteering topped the list, being a paramedic, a teacher, a librarian, and an airline cabin crew member were also in the top five.

At least one-fifth of the ‘empty nesters’ would love to work in the same company as their children, looking to spend more time with them. Around 63% of those surveyed said a career that allowed them to travel would be the most desirable.

The new campaign

easyJet’s latest recruitment campaign was launched with a series of new ads. These ads feature actual life cabin crew members who joined the British carrier in the past year. For instance, Neil, a 59-year-old man, followed in the footsteps of his daughter, Holly (29), and became a cabin crew member in 2019. He previously worked in engineering and sales for over 30 years. Neil said,

“I decided I needed a new challenge and wanted a job I could enjoy and would look forward to work each day, knowing How much Holly loved the job, and with her encouragement, I applied and found myself in Luton academy for training. I have loved it ever since.”

Michael Brown, director of Cabin Services for easyJet, commented that the airline’s heart is its people and the “warm welcome and fantastic customer service that our cabin crew are famous for.” He urged people with a passion for travel who want a different job every day to apply and be a part of the airline’s team.
