Embraer has delivered 14 commercial jet aircraft between April and June 30, 2021. The planemaker says it delivered 34 aircraft in the second quarter, of which 14 were commercial aircraft, and 20 were executive jets.Seven of the aircraft delivered were E-175s and seven were E195-E2s. As of the end of June 2021, Embraer's firm order backlog totaled $15.9 billion, which is a 12% increase compared to the companies first-quarter backlog. Embraer says that this increase in its backlog points to a return to pre-COVID-19 levels.

Porter Airlines has chosen the E195-E2
On July 12, Embraer revealed that the current backlog includes a firm order from the previously undisclosed Porter Airlines for 30 E195-E2 aircraft. Porter Airlines chose the Embraer E195-E2 for its spacious cabin and quiet operations. The airline believes that the E195-E2 is the perfect plane to complement its current route network and to expand to new destinations.
Porter Airlines is Embraer's North American launch airline for the E2 and plans to use the aircraft for flights to popular leisure destinations in Canada, the USA, the Caribbean, and Mexico. Porter Airlines expects deliveries of the new planes to begin in the second half of 2022 and has the purchase rights for a further 50 aircraft.
Helvetic Airways likes the E195-E2
During the second quarter of 2021, Switzerland's Helvetic Airways received the first of four new E195-E2 aircraft. The airline has ordered 12 Embraer E-Jet family aircraft to help support its fleet renewal initiative. Helvetic Airways already has eight Embraer E190-E2s in service and has converted the four E195-E2s from its original order. The Swiss airline also has a purchase right for an additional 12 aircraft from the Brazilian planemaker.
When the three remaining E195-E2s are delivered, Helvetic Airways will have 16 Embraer E-Jets in its fleet. Thanks to a common crew rating, Helvetic can seamlessly schedule 134-seat E195-E2s, 110-seat E190-E2s, and 112-seat E190s across its network. By being able to do this, it can select an aircraft type based on passenger demand.
When speaking about the delivery of the four Embraer E195-E2s, CEO of Helvetic Airways Tobias Pogorevc said the Swiss carrier would have its fleet renewal completed by the end of the month.
When speaking about the deliveries in an Embraer statement, Mr. Pogorevc said:
"The structural changes in the demand for air travel that have emerged in recent months vindicate the strategic choices we made back in 2018.
"With Embraer, we have both the right types of aircraft and the right industry partner. Helvetic Airways now operates an optimal fleet mix in terms of capacity and sustainability. And as one of the leading E-Jet E2 operators in the world, Helvetic Airways will now be able to strengthen further its role as a Swiss airline in the European sky."
When looking at Embraer deliveries for the same quarter in 2020, we see that the Brazilian planemaker only delivered four commercial aircraft. Having now increased that to 14 commercial jets this year shows that demand for new planes is returning.
