Emirates today shared that more than 2,500 of its passengers used the airline’s home check-in service last month. This offering is conducted by the Dubai-based carrier’s partner, DUBZ, and for up to four bags to be checked in and sanitized, it costs from 209 AED ($57) plus VAT.
Three years in the making
Emirates’ home check-in isn’t a measure introduced in response to the pandemic. In fact, it was launched back in April 2018. The airline was keen to smooth out the passenger journey by having travelers check-in from their home, hotel, or office and have their baggage carried to the airport before their trip.
Nonetheless, the global health crisis has given these sorts of initiatives greater value. Passengers are increasingly wanting to eliminate touchpoints and avoid unexpected hassle at the airport amid all the added procedures in place since the crisis emerged.
With passenger activity picking up this summer, more travelers are hitting the air, meaning more people are using this useful service. Emirates shares that it is mostly groups of four to five people that are utilizing the system. They are heading to the likes of Amman, Jordan, Beirut, Lebanon, and Male, Maldives.
Notably, the Eid al-Adha religious holiday saw a boost of users of home check-in. Weekends throughout the month also saw increased activity.
Smoothing out the process
There were up to 130 home check-ins were processed, and 150 pieces of baggage transported to the airport in Dubai a day during these periods. Moreover, there have been around 400 repeated users of home check-in, highlighting the satisfaction of the service.
Altogether, the seamlessness of the process makes it a popular service. It covers several requirements before a passenger has left the airport.
“During the safe and convenient home check-in process, customer-oriented agents check in travellers for their flights, issue boarding passes, weigh and tag their sanitised baggage and ensure these are delivered to the airport and loaded onto the aircraft,” Emirates shared in a statement.
“Each piece of baggage is disinfected with a long-lasting protective coating that lasts for up to 72 hours.”

Altogether, Emirates will be happy that passengers are making use of its innovations. The airline has been promoting its modern check-in options heavily over the last year. Last October, it rolled out self-service check-in at its Dubai hub. Additionally, all of the carrier’s self-check-in screens are now fully touchless, which reduces points of potential virus transmission at the airport. So, the company has all angles covered with its check-in systems.
