Emirates is working with the South African Tourist Board to promote travel to the Country. The Dubai-based carrier is growing its offering to South Africa with plans to add more frequencies on routes to the country’s three largest cities.

The airline is already flying to Cape Town, Durban, and Johannesburg from its Dubai base, but it said that rising demand has led it to expand its capacity to South Africa.

The flight frequency per city

Emirates shared the following in a statement:

"The increase in flights “is part of the airline’s ongoing commitment to support South Africa’s economic and tourism recovery through enhanced connectivity across all of its gateways. The airline’s latest move also reaffirms South Africa’s strategic importance [to Emirates’] network as it prioritizes service expansion and rebuilding its capacity to unlock further growth potential."

The Dubai to Johannesburg will see three daily flights effective from March 1st, 2023. Cape Town, the tourist hub, will be furnished with two daily flights from February 1st, 2023. Lastly, an addition of two more flights to the Durban route effective from December 1st, 2022 making it the earliest route Emirates will unlock among the big three cities.

All these developments unfold after a memorandum of understanding was signed between Emirates and the South African Tourism Board early this year, “to jointly promote tourism” to South Africa, which is seeking to take advantage of the potential passenger feed from Emirates’ extensive global network

Dubai to Johannesburg

EK 767, the third flight on the DXB-JNB route effective 1st March 2023 route will use Boeing 777 aircraft, complementing the mighty A380's daily operations. The flight will depart at 23:25, arriving at 05:35 the next morning in Johannesburg. The return flight will depart Johannesburg at 22:20 and land in Dubai at 08:20 the following morning.

Dubai to Cape Town

The airline will add a second daily flight on the DXB-CPT route from February 1st, 2023, bringing its service to Cape Town back to 2019 levels. Emirates’ second daily service to Cape Town will depart Dubai at 09:10, landing at 16:45. It will then depart Cape Town at 13:25, arriving in Dubai at 01:10 the next day. Emirates noted that the added flights “will collectively provide more cargo belly-hold capacity to further scale up import and export opportunities for local businesses, helping carry vital exports including seafood, fruits and vegetables, fresh and frozen meats, wine, pharmaceuticals, and gold—between the UAE, South Africa and beyond.”

Dubai to Durban

Emirates will add two more weekly flights on the DXB-DUR route from December 1st, upping service from 5x-weekly to daily. With a heavy inflow of tourists flooding Durban for summer in the Southern Hemisphere, this only means a profitable route for the airline.

Emirates has a touch of class

The airline will operate 42 weekly flights to South Africa when the new frequencies are added. All this exponential growth is attributed to a test of time and a touch of class proving itself to be the guru in the global African aviation jungle.
