Dubai-based carrier Emirates is looking to further increase its flight operations to the United States of America as it continues rebuilding operations on the back of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result of the increases, the airline expects to operate 90% of its pre-pandemic United States capacity by December.

At the height of the pandemic, Emirates was one of the worst affected major airlines. While many like British Airways and Qatar Airways could keep a skeleton service running, rules brought in by the UAE government meant that all of the airline's flights had to be suspended. Since it was allowed back into the skies, the road to recovery has been a long one.

Ramping up United States operations

Corresponding to increased demand observed by the airline, Emirates is looking to ramp up its operations to the United States. According to schedule information from aviation data experts Cirium, the airline is currently offering 72.5% of the flights it did to the United States in September 2019.

From next month, the airline is eying a significant increase with regards to American-bound flights. According to Emirates, the airline will operate 78 flights each week to 12 destinations across the country. This gives an average number of flights of 6.5 per destination. The following changes are planned,

• Boston (BOS) - 5x flights a week (+1)
• Dallas (DFW) - 5x flights a week (+1)
• New York (JFK) - 19x flights a week (+1)
• San Francisco (SFO) 5x flights a week (+1)
• Seattle (SEA) 5x flights a week (+1)
• Washington DC (IAD) 5x flights a week (+1)

The remaining destinations will keep their current flight frequency. For Los Angeles and Chicago, this already sits at pre-pandemic levels.

90% by December

The flight increases won't stop there, though. By December, Emirates hopes to offer more than 90% of its pre-pandemic scheduled to the US. According to Cirium's schedule data, 2021 currently has 92.1% of the flights scheduled in December 2019, though this could still fluctuate as it is pretty far out regarding COVID-19 schedule planning.

We do know that the giant of the skies will also be part of this schedule ramp up. From October, the double-decker jet will operate 24 flights each week to the country. 12 flights to JFK, seven to LAX, and five to IAD. However, this will increase to 35 weekly flights by December.

From October 31st, the giant of the skies will be placed on the airline's fifth freedom route from Milan to New York. This will mean New York will have three Airbus A380 flights each day. The airline's flagship route to London will still have more. Meanwhile, San Francisco will receive a daily Airbus A380 flight from December.
