Finnair and Fiji Airways have agreed on a new codesharing partnership between Helsinki and Nadi, Fiji, via three gateways currently served by Finnair. The AY code associated with Finnair will be added to Fiji Airways’ flights between Hong Kong, Singapore, Narita and Nadi later this month.

New destinations

The new arrangement will open up a variety of new destinations for Finnair customers in the South Pacific. And there are also plans to add Finnair numbers to flights between San Francisco, Los Angeles and Nadi, subject to applicable government approval.

Finnair claims that the new additions to its flight portfolio will make it possible for Finnair customers to travel around the world with solely Finnair flight numbers. Meanwhile, Fiji Airways’ FJ code will, in turn, be added to Finnair’s flights to Helsinki via Singapore, making it possible for Fiji Airways’ customers to travel to Finland and other points in Europe.

The new codeshare flights will become available on Finnair.com from October 27.

Value added

Speaking on the new collaboration in a press release, Ole Orvér, Chief Commercial Officer at Finnair, suggested that it will hugely benefit customers of the airline.

“We are excited about this cooperation with Fiji Airways and are delighted to offer this wonderful new destination in the South Pacific to our customers. This cooperation is unique as it will allow Finnair customers to purchase around-the-world routings under Finnair’s code for the very first time, using a combination of gateways in Asia and on the US West Coast. We would also like to warmly welcome Fiji Airways’ customers to enjoy the wonders of Finland and the Nordics,” Orvér commented.

And Andre Viljoen, Managing Director and CEO of Fiji Airways, also believes that the cooperation will add significant value to both companies.

“We welcome our fellow oneworld partner Finnair in our family of codeshare partners. Through this partnership, we are adding the wonderful city of Helsinki to our network, making Fiji and the entire South Pacific more accessible for Finnair customers. We look forward to working with Finnair and introducing Finnair customers to Fiji, one of the world’s most welcoming and authentic cultures."

LATAM agreement

Finnair also recently announced a codeshare agreement with LATAM, which will apply to routes between Helsinki and both São Paulo, Brazil and Santiago, Chile, via five European gateways. The carrier has also enjoyed significant success with business class customers in recent years, with Finnair’s CEO, Topi Manner, stating that the Finnish airline has experienced a huge demand for business class services.

Meanwhile, Fiji Airways recently unveiled a new fleet of Airbus A350 aircraft. The carrier expects to have the first of these two state-of-the-art aircraft before the end of this year.
