Starting on October 5, passengers will be able to see and use the new gate area, which features nine gates. At opening, only eight gates will be in use.

"We continue to elevate the customer journey in Los Angeles, building loyalty through state-of-the-art infrastructure, robust network offerings, innovative technology and, of course, our award-winning customer service. LAX is one of Delta's most important coastal hubs, and we're committed to providing customers with the premium curb-to-claim experience they deserve." - Scott Santoro, Vice President of Global Sales

In addition to opening nine new gates, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW), Delta's retail partner, will open a wide variety of restaurant and retail options in the next few months.

These include Jamba Juice, Native, Alfred Coffee, Chicken + Beer, and more. Homeboy and Gameway are both in operation.

Big changes at LAX

Yesterday's announcement was just the second of the three-phase project. The first phase of the Terminal 3 remodel was opened on April 20, along with the new Delta Sky Club. In April, a new centralized check-in lobby was added, the security checkpoint was expanded, and the baggage claim area was expanded.

By next year, Delta will open a new headhouse that will feature an exclusive check-in area for Delta One passengers and self-service bag drop kiosks. At its completion, the Delta Sky Way at LAX will see the consolidation of terminals 2 and 3. The merger will create a 1.2 million square foot, state-of-the-art, 27-gate facility.

Connectivity is an essential part of this project. Currently, those needing to transit between terminals 2 and 3 have to do so via bus. With the consolidation, the need for a bus will be eliminated. The new Delta terminal will also feature a quick airside connector to the Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT).

Ëlevating the guest experience is pivotal in our ongoing work to build a better LAX, and we are thrilled to see the next major phase of this project completed in partnership with Delta Air Lines. The new Terminal 3 concourse includes best-in-class passenger amenities and technology, and showcases our vision for a fully modernized airport." - Justin Erbacci, Chief Executive Officer, Los Angeles World Airports

Los Angeles is a crucial city for Delta. It serves as a critical coastal hub, is home to two major sports teams that Delta is the official carrier for (Lakers and Kings), and supports numerous nonprofit organizations in the area. Delta currently operates more than 135 daily flights from Los Angeles to almost 50 destinations worldwide. Last week, Delta announced two new transatlantic routes from LAX, flying to London (LHR) and Paris (CDG). These routes were served by Delta in the past but have not seen Delta service since the pandemic.
