2019 is only two days away, so you’re probably already thinking about how you can maximize your points and miles-earning potential in the New Year. If Marriott Rewards points are your fav, Simple Flying has put together a list of ways you can earn maximum points in 2019, whether you’re an old pro or a Marriott Rewards newb.
1. Get That Credit Card
There are multiple Marriott and Starwood Preferred Guest credit cards that you can earn with, even though the two merged. These include…
- SPG from American Express Luxury Card
- SPG credit card from American Express (Read More)
- SPG Business credit card from American Express
- Marriott Bonvoy Boundless™ Credit Card
You can earn up to 100,000 points with these cards, if you qualify and, better still, if you have a spouse on your account, they can sign up for credit cards separately, resulting in double the sign-up bonuses.
After that, it’s time to start spending on those cards, as your everyday spending (as well as obviously your hotel and other travel purchases) can add up to a large amount of points over time.
2. Get (Yes) Another Credit Card
If you don’t want any of the above, or don’t qualify for them, never fear. You can earn points that convert to Marriott Rewards when you have a Chase Ultimate Rewards card. These include…
You can also transfer American Express Membership Rewards points to Marriott Rewards points at a 1:1 ratio. This includes points earned with…
- American Express Gold Card (Learn More)
- Platinum Card from American Express (learn more)
- Amex EveryDay Preferred card
- Business Green Rewards Card from American Express
- American Express Business Gold Card
- Blue Business Plus credit card from American Express
- Business Platinum Card from American Express (learn more)
3. Shop via Marriott
Just like many (most) airlines, Marriott has its own shopping portal, which allows you to earn Marriott Rewards points when you make purchases with brands you already love. Think Best Buy, Macy’s, Nike and more. The portal also runs regular specials that allow you to earn extra Rewards points just by buying with a certain store or spending a certain amount, etc.
4. Refer Your Friends
Have friends? Tell them to sign up for the Marriott Rewards program and then book their next stay at a Marriott property. If they use you as a referral, you can earn up to 50,000 points, or 2,000 points for each stay your referred friend makes, up to 10,000 points per friend. Your friend will also earn more points because of this, so everybody wins.
5. Save the Planet
At participating Marriott brands, if you opt out of housekeeping, you can earn up to 500 bonus points per stay on stays of two nights or more.
This perk is available at the following brands:
- Fairfield Inn
- SpringHill Suites
It’s a super-easy way to earn some points, by literally doing nothing at all.
6. Travel Partners
There are several travel partners that allow you to earn some easy Marriott Rewards points. Take, for example, Hertz. You can earn 3,000 Marriott points per rental and receive 35 percent off your rental, when you book through Marriott Moments.
Similarly, you can earn 3 Marriott points per $1 spent on cruise trips when you book through CruisesOnly.
7. Buy Some Points
Buying some points is always an option, even if it isn’t the best one. However, if you’re really close to a redemption you want, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t just go ahead and buy the points you need. Keep in mind that Marriott Rewards points do expire after two years, and you can only purchase 50,000 points per calendar year, in increments of 1,000.
8. Keep an Eye on the Marriott Deals Page
When you keep an eye on this page in particular, you never know what kind of Marriott Rewards points-earning deals are going to pop up, so you can earn more when you travel. While a lot of the offers are percentages off your stay or resort credits, some are points-earning deals, like current offers to earn 2,000 bonus points daily when you stay at Courtyard properties.
9. The Marriott Vacation Experience
Beyond just choosing Marriott for your accommodations, why not just use the brand for your entire vacation experience? Vacations by Marriott frequently gives you ways to earn more points via promotions, when you book your next trip with the provider.
Likewise, you can look into the value of a Marriott Vacation Club timeshare. The great part? You can rack in some bonus points by just visiting a property, taking a look around and listening to a timeshare presentation. No obligation required.
