Spanish national flag carrier Iberia is betting big on flights between Spain and the United States for the 2021/2022 winter season. The Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport (MAD)-based carrier is offering 70 flights per week between the Spanish mainland and the continental United States.
The announcement, made in a company statement released on October 19, 2021, says that the increase in flights is timed to coincide with the US government’s decision to reopen leisure travel to Europeans on November 8, 2021. After months of closure and pressure from the United Kingdom and the European Union, the US recently announced its plan to reopen to tourists next month.
Iberia is increasing the frequency of flights
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Iberia maintained a limited number of flights between Spain and the United States. As more and more people get vaccinated, the IAG-owned airline has rolled the dice with a big bet placed on America.
Currently, Iberia operates flights from Madrid Terminal 4 to the following US airports:
- John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK)
- Boston Logan International Airport (BOS)
- Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD)
- Miami International Airport (MIA)
- Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
For its winter 2021/2022 Iberia will offer the following frequencies between Europe and the United States:
- Madrid to New York will see ten flights per week
- Madrid to Miami will see five flights per week
- Madrid to Chicago will see five flights per week
- Madrid to Boston will see three flights per week
- Madrid to Los Angeles will see three flights per week
In addition to the mainland flights, Iberia will operate four weekly flights to the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico, where it has a Joint Business Agreement (JBA) with American Airlines, British Airways, and Finnair.
Thanks to its codesharing agreement with American partner airlines Iberia offers its customers one-ticket travel to an additional 117 destinations. Under a contract signed a few days ago with Alaska Airlines, 37 destinations on the West Coast are now available to Iberia customers.
Iberia is offering excellent fares starting from €111 one-way
To encourage people to travel between the United States and Europe, Iberia offers hard-to-believe prices for transatlantic travel.

Traveling out of season can save money on airfares
Unfortunately, the super low-fares may have been available for a limited time as looking at Iberia’s website, the best we can find is a one-way fare from Madrid to Miami for €267 ($311).
One of the advantages for American’s withing to travel to Spain over the winter is that you will be able to visit the museums and attractions without the crowds.
