Spanish national flag carrier Iberia is betting big on flights between Spain and the United States for the 2021/2022 winter season. The Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport (MAD)-based carrier is offering 70 flights per week between the Spanish mainland and the continental United States.

The announcement, made in a company statement released on October 19, 2021, says that the increase in flights is timed to coincide with the US government's decision to reopen leisure travel to Europeans on November 8, 2021. After months of closure and pressure from the United Kingdom and the European Union, the US recently announced its plan to reopen to tourists next month.
