Iberia to increase flights to Dallas

A day after hosting an event in Dallas celebrating the June launch of flights from Madrid to Dallas, Iberia announced that it would expand from thrice weekly to daily flights next summer. The Spanish carrier will slowly increase its frequencies between now and June until reaching one daily flight. Iberia cannot rapidly expand its services as it awaits the delivery of several new aircraft.

Iberia currently deploys its Airbus A330 aircraft on its Dallas route and most routes to the United States. The Airbus widebodies are configured in three cabins, Business, premium economy, and economy, offering 40,000 seats per month on the Dallas-Madrid route.

Iberia has made it clear that the United States is a priority market. The airline is adding 15% more capacity in seats to the US this winter compared to its 2019 winter schedule. Between now and March, Iberia will offer 589,000 seats. During winter, Iberia has almost 2,000 flights scheduled to the US, 21% more than before the COVID pandemic.

Increasing flights on other United States routes

In addition to expanding frequencies to Dallas, Iberia announced that it would increase flights to Miami and New York. Below is a summary of Iberia's schedule to the United States:

  • Dallas - 3x weekly, daily from June 2023
  • Los Angeles - 3x weekly
  • New York - between 12-14x weekly, depending on the month
  • Miami - 2x daily
  • Chicago - 5-7x weekly, depending on the month
  • Boston - 3-5x weekly, depending on the month
  • Washington - seasonal service that will resume in March 2023, the beginning of the summer season
  • San Francisco - seasonal service, restart from May

Iberia is increasing flights to New York City and Miami from 10 weekly flights to 14, two per day. The airline will offer more than 170,000 seats on each route between November and March.

Yesterday, Iberia held an event in Dallas to celebrate the success of the Madrid-DFW route. Simple Flying was invited to the event and had the chance to speak with Iberia's Director of Global sales, Beatriz Guillen. Guillen shared with Simple Flying that the decision to fly to Dallas was deliberate, as 50-55% of passengers connect through DFW, home of oneworld partner American Airlines. DFW has become the third most significant point for Iberia's travelers between the US and Spain.

Recent Iberia news - codeshare with Qatar Airways

Early this week, the Argentinian government approved an amendment to the codeshare between Qatar Airways and Iberia. Both airlines can offer joint flights from Doha to Buenos Aires through the approved changes, connecting through Barcelona or Madrid. Qatar Airways is allowed to operate the flight between Doha and either of the Spanish cities and for Iberia to commercialize it, and vice versa for the flights from Spain to Qatar.
