ITA Airways has revealed that its cabin crew will now sport new uniforms. The uniforms were designed with the help of the famous designer Brunello Cucinelli. The airline anticipates that the new stylish uniforms will help set it apart from other airlines, giving its crew a professional and unique appearance.

The announcement that the cabin crew would receive new uniforms came as a three-part announcement from ITA. The airline also announced opening a new hangar lounge and that new Airbus A320neos would be given a modified interior.

ITA Airways' new look

As of this morning, all passengers traveling on an ITA Airways flight have been greeted by cabin crews sporting the company's new uniforms. Despite being primarily influenced by famous designer Brunello Cucinelli, the new uniforms were surprisingly affordable for the airline as Cucinelli chose not to charge for artistic advice. Instead, Cucinelli sees the creative contribution to ITA Airways as a gift to the airline and all of its passengers.

According to ITA Airways, all cabin crew members across the company have received these new uniforms, meaning that over 1,400 will wear the new uniforms. In addition to cabin crew sporting the new look, 91 employees working in airline lounges will wear the uniforms along with 118 ground crew. The new uniforms have been designed to highlight Cucinelli's style, giving additional character to the airline and its operations.

While much time went into designing and creating the uniforms, the designs are relatively simple yet elegant. The uniform for female flight attendants consists of a matching set of jackets and pants, which can be worn with a skirt instead. The male flight attendant uniform consists of traditional trousers with a one-and-a-half-breasted jacket.

Sustainable decision

ITA Airways has been working to reduce its carbon footprint and promote sustainability. One of the most obvious ways it has been doing so is by acquiring more fuel-efficient aircraft and investing in sustainable aviation technologies. However, there are many other ways the airline is working to reduce its total waste output. One of those additional methods it has been using is recycling whenever and wherever possible.

Transitioning to a new uniform would see thousands of older uniforms go to waste. However, the airline has chosen to have all the old uniforms recycled. This recycling program is known as ITA Airways' "Art Makes Sustainability" program. Through this program, the old uniforms will be given to aspiring artists who will use the material to create various works of art.

The program is a part of the airline's "circular economy," which is geared toward reducing waste output from the airline by repurposing and recycling waste wherever possible. The airline believes that, through these programs, it will reduce waste output enough that once it reaches carbon neutrality, which it plans to achieve in 2050, it will be a truly sustainable company.
