Low-cost carrier Skymark Airlines will launch another Pokémon-themed jet at the end of this month, following its first effort in June last year. From May 30th, the airline will take its Pikachu Jet BC2 to the skies on domestic flights.

Another Pokémon aircraft for Skymark

Skymark Airlines will introduce its second Pokémon-decorated aircraft this month, featuring the Pokémon creatures Wailord, Pikachu, Magikarp, and Shaymin Sky Forme. This will be the second collaboration with Pokémon Co. after the successful launch of its first Pokémon plane in June 2021.

The latest addition, a Boeing 737-800 named Pikachu Jet BC2, is scheduled to debut on two domestic flights on May 30th. More information will be announced soon, such as special in-flight services and upcoming routes.

The jet's debut flights on May 30th (all times in JST) will be:

  • Flight SKY519 - Departing Haneda at 15:35, arriving in Naha at 18:20.
  • Flight SKY508 - Departing Naha at 19:15, arriving in Fukuoka at 21:00.

Passengers can expect other Pokémon-themed experiences when flying on a Pokémon jet, both inflight and at the airport. The first Pikachu jet includes various quirks, including Pokémon flight attendant aprons, headrests, baggage tags, and boarding passes.

The chosen aircraft is a 10-year-old Boeing 737-800 (registration JA73NG), which has received a makeover in preparation for its May 30th launch.

The first Pikachu jet

Skymark Airlines first teamed up with Pokémon Co. last year with its 'Pikachu Jet BC.' This aircraft is painted primarily in yellow and features 11 different iterations of the star of the Pokémon franchise, Pikachu.

The first Pikachu jet (registration JA73AB) is a three-year-old Boeing 737-800. It mainly operates on Okinawa routes and remains active to this day. Scheduling information on the jet is released just a day before, suggesting the same may happen with Skymark's second Pokémon aircraft.

A Skymark Airlines Boeing 737-800 offers 177 seats, all in economy. The airline has a total of 29 737-800s with an average age of just over 10 years.

The history of Pokémon jets

The Pokémon franchise was created in 1996 and found its way onto an All Nippon Airways Boeing 747-400D just two years later. ANA ended up decorating several of its aircraft with Pokémon in the following years.

According to Pokémon Air Adventures,

"We’re in the midst of creating more unique Pikachu Jets in other countries and regions worldwide. These planes will connect skies the world over, providing wonderful memories for your journey."

Before Pikachu Jet BC2, Japan's latest Pokémon jet was a Boeing 767 flying with Air Do and featuring the Vulpix Pokémon. Once Skymark Airlines' second Pokémon jet takes to the skies, there will be four active Pokémon aircraft, including Solaseed Air's Exeggutor-themed Boeing 737-800.
