Kuwaiti budget airline Jazeera Airways is set to increase its offering by adding two new destinations in Europe. The carrier is robust in its projections for the summer season and predicts a decent return of passengers to popular leisure destinations.

Busy summer

Jazeera projects high demand for the 2022 summer season, expecting good load factors and advising passengers to book early. With most travel restrictions lifted, passengers are returning in good numbers, and the carrier feels that it’s the right time to embark on a network expansion. Its Chief Executive Officer, Rohit Ramachandran, adds,

“We are very excited to be launching two new services for the summer season, giving our customers more choice to enjoy a vacation filled with activities and cultural experiences with family or friends. Demand for unique tourist destinations is very high following two years of travel restrictions. We look forward to welcoming customers on board these new flights very soon.”

Much like the airlines in the rest of the world, Jazeera’s return to normalcy has been dictated by the COVID pandemic. When the Kuwaiti government eased travel restrictions last year, the airline reported a 137.7% increase in passengers in the second quarter of last year.

Earlier this year, the airline also inaugurated flights to Chittagong, Bangladesh.

Growth story

Jazeera Airways has had a decent run in the last few years. Founded in April 2004 as the Middle East's first non-government owned airline, the budget carrier connects the region with its fleet of Airbus A320 jets but even flies as far as Europe.

It started its journey with just one Airbus A320 but went on to add 17 aircraft in 17 years – not an enormous number but a low-key growth, nevertheless. In November 2021, Jazeera signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Dubai Airshow to acquire 28 A320neo family aircraft.

In February this year, it firmed up that order worth around $3.4 billion - a move that will see the all-Airbus narrowbody operator expand and modernize its fleet as it looks to better compete in the region.

Jazeera Airways has also seen consistent growth in its network over the years. Operating commercial and cargo flights out of its Jazeera Terminal T5 at Kuwait International Airport, the airline flies to over 45 popular destinations across the Middle East, Central and South Asia, Africa, and Europe, comprising high-demand business, leisure, and weekend destinations.
