In a stunning move, Canada Jetlines has decided not to go to Florida after all. Contrary to popular rumors, its first international destination since it received a US foreign air carrier permit will see it arrive in Las Vegas. Flights will start January 19, 2023, between Toronto’s Pearson International Airport (YYZ) to Las Vegas’ Harry Reid International Airport (LAS), pending Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval

About the flight

The new flight will be flown on Canada Jetlines’ Airbus A320 aircraft and is projected to take four hours and 53 minutes nonstop between Toronto and Las Vegas. The round-trip flights are scheduled to start Thursday of each week and once daily through to the following Sunday.

Prices can be found at jetlines.com, but in economy they start at CAD 190 ($141) and top out at CAD 410 ($305).

For Chief Executive Officer Eddy Doyle;

“We are incredibly excited to launch Canada Jetlines’ international services with a route to the entertainment capital of the world. As we continue to expand our international network with our first route into the US, we look forward to beginning services in such a coveted tourist and convention destination such as Las Vegas.”

It’s worth noting that Canadian carriers Air Canada Rouge, Swoop, and WestJet all fly the same direct route, according to Google Flights. Air Canada Rouge uses Airbus A320 family jets, while WestJet and Swoop will use a Boeing 737 family member to fly the route.

More US destinations are in the works.

As recently reported, Canada Jetlines is looking at connecting Toronto to Orlando and Sarasota, Florida. Both airports sent letters of support to give Canada Jetlines a permit to serve United States destinations. When filing for a permit to fly in the United States, Canada Jetlines submitted in part;

The airline intends to provide exciting vacation packages via strong partnerships with airports, CVBs, tourism entities, hotels, hospitality brands, and attractions; for example, it is developing relationships with Melbourne Orlando and Sarasota Bradenton International Airports for Florida service.

Canada Jetlines' routes to Florida are still possible. Nonetheless, Las Vegas makes sense as an early destination as the airport is enjoying record growth.

About Canada Jetlines

Canada Jetlines is targeted at leisure travelers and has, so far, been operating within Canadian borders. The airline is not intended to compete directly with Swoop or Flair.

The aircraft to be used are Airbus A320-200s with two CFM56-5B4/3 engines. The cabin will feature the new Recaro 3530 seats, in-seat USB power, and electronic device holders. Canada Jetlines will also install an inflight entertainment (IFE) system made by Flymingo Box - perfect for that five-hour flight to the United States.

Finally, the airline has a new merchandise store, which should please aviation collectors.
