LATAM Brasil has announced its first international route as part of its new joint venture agreement with American carrier Delta Air Lines. Beginning July 23, LATAM will fly directly from São Paulo's Aeroporto Internacional de Guarulhos (GRU) to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

LATAM to launch LAX - GRU

From July 1st, 2023, LATAM Brasil will fly from São Paulo to Los Angeles three times weekly. No other airline connects the West Coast of the United States with Brazil, though airlines like Varig, Korean Air, Japan Airlines, and American Airlines have done so in the past.

The new route is LATAM Brasil's first new international route since the beginning of the COVID pandemic and its fifth American destination. Customers flying on the new route will have easy access to Delta's West Coast destinations and flights to Asia.

Tickets are available for the route through all points of sale. The newly announced service to Los Angeles is the first route announced as part of the joint-venture agreement between LATAM and Delta, which was approved in September. Though this is the first time LATAM Brasil will fly to Los Angeles, the airline group currently operates flights to LAX from Santiago and Lima.

In a statement, the carrier said,

"LATAM endured the pandemic and exited Chapter 11 with its operations consolidated and more efficient, and with the most complete route network in the region. Now, with the joint-venture agreement with Delta, we are able to expand our international connectivity. São Paulo - Los Angeles is a result of planning between two global carriers that now work together to offer its clients the most simple and quickest travel options, with the best routes, durations, and connection periods." - Aline Mafra, Director of Sales and Marketing, LATAM Brasil

The three weekly flights from GRU to LAX will be onboard LATAM's fleet of Boeing 777 aircraft with a capacity of 410 passengers configured in a three-cabin configuration. The airline's 777s have 38 Premium Business seats, 50 Economy+, and 322 economy seats. Below is the schedule for the new route:

Danillo Barbizan, Delta's Sales Director in Brazil, added,

"We are very excited and proud of what Delta and LATAM have quickly achieved. The first announcement of a new route since the beginning of our new agreement brings new opportunities to commercial aviation, with complete focus on our leisure and business travelers in North and South America."

LATAM Brasil currently operates five routes to the United States, four of which are from São Paulo. From São Paulo, the airline flies to Orlando, Miami, New York, and Boston. The fifth route is from the northeast city of Fortaleza. From Fortaleza, LATAM Brasil has five flights scheduled this month.

Increased frequencies

Not only is LATAM adding new routes as part of its joint venture with Delta, but the airline is also increasing frequencies on other routes between South America and the United States. Beginning in August, LATAM is increasing the following routes:

• GRU-MCO - four times weekly
• SCL-LAX - five times weekly
• LIM-MIA - 17 times weekly
• LIM-JFK - 12 times weekly
• LIM-LAX - 14 times weekly
