Yesterday, LATAM Brasil had a special flight onboard an Airbus A319, registration PR-MYM, with a live DJ onboard. The flight was operated in partnership with Rock in Rio Brasil to promote the incoming music festival to be held in September. Let’s investigate further.
Rock on!
LATAM operated the so-called Voo do Rock (The Rock Flight) on Friday between Congonhas Airport (CGH) in São Paulo and Santos Dumont Airport (SDU) in Rio de Janeiro.
The South American airline employed an Airbus A319, which has a unique Rock in Rio livery. Last month, this aircraft appeared in a LATAM video in which the airline employed a drone to do a thorough maintenance inspection of the fuselage.
The flight LA3924 between São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro departed at 15:05 and landed an hour later. It flew at 25,000 feet.
While approaching Santos Dumont Airport, the crew flew over the Parque dos Atletas, also known as the City of Rock, where the Rock in Rio festival is located. This year, Rock in Rio will take place between September 2-4 and 8-11; it is the first time it will be held since the pandemic began. Among the famous bands that will play at the festival are Iron Maiden, Guns N’ Roses, Green Day, Coldplay, and more.
LATAM Brasil had to coordinate the most adequate route with Brazil’s Air Navigation Center (CGNA, in Portuguese) to operate the flight over the City of Rock. They had to guarantee LATAM’s flight would not disturb the air traffic around Rio de Janeiro and impact the punctuality and commercial services in Brazil’s second-largest city.
A show onboard
The passengers onboard LATAM’s flight were also part of a small gig by JetLag DJs, a Brazilian electronic band that will be a part of the Rock in Rio festival.
In addition to the show, passengers were also presented with a soundbox to stay even more connected with LATAM's Rock in Rio Brazil playlist on the digital platforms, alluding to the concept of the campaign, named A música te faz viajar which can be translated to "Music makes you travel."

The Rock in Rio aircraft
According to ch-aviation, PR-MYM is an Airbus A319-100 operated by LATAM Brazil but owned by Deucalion Aviation. It has first delivered on July 6, 2011, and has always flown with the Brazilian carrier.
It has a capacity to carry up to 144 passengers in a one cabin configuration. The Rock in Rio livery was painted at LATAM’s MRO in São Carlos, and the process can be seen in the previous tweet by LATAM.
In total, three of LATAM Brazil’s Airbus A319 aircraft will be painted with the Rock in Rio livery and will fly promoting the “world’s largest music and entertainment festival until October of this year,” said LATAM in a statement.
