Ahead of the Queen’s 70th Jubilee celebrations next weekend, London City Airport (LCY) has announced how it will be marking the occasion.

The central London airport, a Windsor family favorite thanks to its proximity to Buckingham Palace, has launched a new logo featuring a prominent profile of Her Majesty the Queen, which will be used until next weekend across all of the airport's communications and social media channels.

Passengers will not be excluded from the celebrations either – those heading off on a weekend break can use the promo code “70JUBILEE” when booking their parking ahead of time. The code will save 70 passengers £70 when used at checkout.

Additionally, throughout June, East London-based Truman’s Brewery at LCY will be serving a special commemorative cocktail, the ‘Royal Dubonnet Gin Cocktail’ (Comprised of Dubonnet, 58Gin, and freshly squeezed lemon juice) for travelers looking to raise a pre-flight toast to Her Majesty. Aelia Duty-Free will also offer a range of unique, commemorative products, including biscuits and loose-leaf tea from Royal Warrant holding Fortnum & Mason.

The Jubilee weekend is set to be a busy one for London City Airport, which just last week recorded a post-pandemic record of 67,000 passengers. Inbound travelers are expected from across the United Kingdom’s domestic network and international travelers from nearby European destinations.

Operations will be halted temporarily for 20 minutes on Thursday at 11:48 and on Sunday at 16:57 as part of the RAF’s city flyover so that passengers can view the aerial tribute.

“This is a unique and special moment, not only for the UK and Commonwealth, but for the entire world,” noted airport CEO Robert Sinclair. “Whether you are working at the airport, traveling through it, or living close by, we want everyone to feel part of the Jubilee and for it to be a weekend that lives long in the memory – which I believe will be a fitting tribute to Her Majesty.”

Other celebrations

London City Airport will also be sponsoring several local community events next weekend. In its home borough of Newham, the airport will be supporting the Royal British Legion as it lights the Jubilee Beacon, with a later party at the nearby Brick Lane Music Hall, featuring food, drink, and live music for over 300 people.

In neighboring Barking & Dagenham, the airport is one of the sponsors of the local council’s celebration program, including the Youth Parade, planned for the Sunday, set to welcome over 2,000 people.

The airport is not alone in its celebrations – Virgin Atlantic has simultaneously announced its plans to commemorate the Jubilee, allowing passengers to join in the festivities in the skies. Those traveling to the United States and the Caribbean for a bank holiday break will be greeted with a festive milk chocolate lolly to commemorate the day.

Passengers in Premium and Upper Class will be offered a classic British Afternoon Tea, featuring finger sandwiches, mini pâtisseries, cakes, and a Virgin Atlantic-themed Battenberg.

With only days to go, it is set to be an exciting bank holiday weekend for those celebrating at home or taking advantage of the four-day break for a short trip away.
