Osaka, Japan, was recently awarded the third most liveable city in the world (Just behind Vienna, Austria, and Melbourne, Australia) and British Airways wants to get you there with their new route!
Breaking announcement that has just hit the press, British Airways will be offering a direct route from London to the liveable city, starting from the end of March.
BA actually did fly to Osaka from London, but not since 1998. As Japan gears up for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, we can expect more flights to the country to be opened.
Japan has vastly changed in the last 20 years since they last had the winter Olympics in 1998. Back then, they saw a very modest 4.1 million tourists in the whole year (They were the 33rd most visited destination worldwide, behind countries like Ukraine and Belgium). They even barely made a dent with their numbers until 2013, where the country’s tourism industry exploded.
Just take the summer month of July 2018, in which Japan saw 2.6 million tourists visit their country. And why not explore it, for example, in Japan you can take business class flights to nowhere for $46!
This increase has been reflected in flights from Europe, with offerings from Finnair being especially popular.
Our partners Japan Airlines and Finnair have demonstrated that Osaka is a hugely popular route with leisure and business travellers alike, so we are excited to launch direct flights from London, giving customers another gateway.- Sean Doyle, British Airways’ Director of Network and Alliances
The new route will be flown on a new British Airways 787 Dreamliner and will depart from Heathrow terminal 5. It has not been confirmed how long it will be, but we expect around 12.5 hours.
This route will also be a codeshare with Japan Airlines, allowing loyalty program holders to gain further access across the network. BA will be adding codeshare to the following routes: Tokyo Haneda and Miyazaki, Kumamoto, Komatsu and Matsuyama.
We are extremely excited with the announcement of British Airways’ new route. Not only does it provide more choices and greater convenience for our passengers traveling between Japan and Europe, but it is also great news for the Kansai region. We look forward to serving our mutual customers through our codeshare service and contributing to the regional economy in Osaka – Hideki Oshima, Japan Airlines’ Executive Officer International Relations and Alliances
Flights will cost £599 in World Traveller, £999 in World Traveller Plus and £2499 for Club World.
